2 weeks ago I had my longest ride at 30 miles. I got a lot of encouragement from people in this forum after that ride (like Tom Stormcrowe), and I was a bit inspired to push for a longer ride.

Today I set off from Corvallis, OR to Lebanon, OR, then I turned around and rode back. Time on the bike was 2:47, average 16 mph. I'm estimating total time at about 3:15.

This is a really flat ride. It climbs about 100 feet over 22 miles from Corvallis to Lebanon, so luckily the ride home is all "downhill".

I feel pretty good on the inside. My arms are a little sore right now, and I'm sure my legs will be telling me how they feel tomorrow morning.

Now you know what Mellencamp meant by "Hurt's so Good".

Great job! Kinda cool to jump on the bike and say, "I'm just going to ride over to that other town and back." Even if they are close (and 22 miles is NOT close), it sounds daunting.

When I was 25 I rode 50 miles and thought nothing of it. I started riding again at age 60 and 25 miles left me feeling I had done too much. I rode 50 miles recently, but really over stressed myself. Right now 30 miles is what 50 was 37 years ago. From the stories of other people I am confidently hopeful that another couple of years of getting tougher will make 50 miles as easy as it was at age 25.

Very good overall speed.

Did you do the ride on Hwy 34, or did you drop down to Tangent Drive?

Tangent. Hwy 34 is busy. It was really cool to be on a back hwy with practically no traffic. On the way out about 25 classic corvettes/porsche's (porschi?)(not sure which) passed in rapid succession going the opposite direction; they must have been going to a show. Other than that, I probably saw 6 total vehicles while going out and back.

Well done. On rides like that the wind is your "hills."
16 mph is something I'd be very pleased with --( well once I get up to that kind of distance. Right now my rear and back is beggin' for mercy after an hour and 20 min.)
