General Cycling Discussion - Need information about my 1995 Globe

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi, I'm not much of a cyclist anymore and have had my beautiful Globe collecting dust in the garage for the last few years. I'm thinking of handing it down to my great-niece who is 10 years old, and who I think would love it (especially as her bike was stolen last summer). I bought it new in 1995; it has the "denim" frame with yellow fenders, a generator, rear wheel lock (with a key!) 7 gears, front hand brakes and rear coaster brakes, rack on the rear fender and a very cool bell. I took it to a local bike shop for new tires and tubes (the old white walls are toast) and a tune up and cleaning, and the guys there were very excited about it. No one could tell me anything about value though someone said something about it being collectible. I would like to have as much information to pass on as possible and I ask because an old thread from this site showed up when I Googled Specialized Globe.
I appreciate any useful information.

I don't think they are really "collectible" but they are very cool and desireable for the person wanting a more traditional commuter bike. Specialized also did not sell loads of them. So they have good value for older bikes.

I did a quick Google search and found a few 1995 Specialized Globes that had sold for about 225. It looks like 1995 was the first year for that model. I have a 1998 Specialized Globe A1, completely different bike, 24 speed, front/rear V brakes, suspension seat post and handle bars, etc. Great bike, a little heavy but I still use it as my around town bike. You have a very nice gift for your great-niece.
Thanks, I think she'll be delighted with it.
