We've not contributed to this forum lately as we've just spent the last two months in warm, sunny Arizona tandeming and hiking. Here's a sample of some great rides down that way, all on paved roads. Just below Lake Havasu and Parker Dam there's a serious climb to Black Meadow Landing where you'll often see wild burros, coyotes, and loads of lizards. Just east of the town of Parker, Shea Road is a great 27 mile out and back around a BLM wilderness Area. On east about 20 miles is the tiny town of Bouse. There's a city park on the south side to start riding the beautiful Plomosa Road down to Quartsite. That's about a 40 mile round trip through flowering cactus. About 75 miles further east in the small cow town of Wickenburg the Vulture Mine Road is a stellar 30 mile round trip.

Then we made our way To Zion National park...where cars must be left at the gate. But bicycles are allowed through Zion Canyon. The more times you cycle the 18 mile round trip the more sites you see that you missed the day before.

Then hiking, or Canyoneering as they call it, is the way to spend alternate days at Zion Canyon as well as in the Canyons just below Lake Havasu on the Colorado. The Park Service has many improved trails at Zion and the burros have made countless trails below Havasu.

Glad you enjoyed AZ this winter. Lake Havasu/Yuma area is now warming up to mid-90s. Quartzsite is a bit of a hoot; a huge settlement of RV folks in winter and population near zero by summer; also has the biggest swapmeet anywhere in the world. Wikieup, around Joshua Tree country, has 3 nice restaurants and one of 'em serves a great bowl of chili. Wickenburg is the only town of any size and near there is the famous Yarnell Hill (between Yarnel and Congress) with a long 50+ mph downhill on the tandem. Try it next time you're out there.
Sad to say but the Old West is vanishing . . .
We are heading up to Utah in a few weeks.
Pedal on TWOgether!
