I'm not sure that strikes by transit and refinery workers will translate into an increase in bike sales. I didn't see anyone quoted in either article exclaim, "Gosh! I better go buy a bike!"

At any rate, I'm not very impressed with the transit workers in Toronto; striking with no warning whatsoever seems like a really good way to alienate people, thereby almost guaranteeing the failure of the strike. This is especially true if the strikers are already making a lot of money to begin with.

It's hitting in some areas already. There's a new thread in the Classic and Vintage forum complaining about how the prices on used bikes have taken a major jump in the last year. A lot of it is being credited to the fixie fixation, but not all . . . .

A bit off topic but definitely a parallel course: For a living, I work in the parts department of a fairly large Honda motorcycle dealership. Over the past two weeks, I learned to dread any phone call that starts with, "I have this 80's Honda scooter . . . . . . . . "

My wife lived in Montreal for 25 years split between two husbands. Don't even say the words "Canadian strike" around her. It has a lot to do with why she moved back to the US.
