Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forums and road biking in general. I recently bought a sunset orange '73 Schwinn Varsity Sport, all original parts and in good condition (got lucky on craigslist :D). Well, I've been riding the heck outta that thing (which was originally for commuting purposes only), and now it's set aside while I gather tools to disassemble it and clean out the bearings and guts in the bottom bracket and rear hub. (There were symptoms of dirt and grime in these areas.)

It's turning out to be quite an adventure, and I've become known as "Chris, that kid with the old Schwinn" to my local bike shop! They've been really helpful, but I'm probably going to have to post specific questions on here as I advance through the project. I'm a do-it-yourselfer, but I'm a newbie at all this, and I'm sure they'll come up. :)

happy to be on here! -chris

Welcome to BF! Rolla seems to be a great place with some beautiful country to bike through.
I am trying to purchase a 71 Schwinn Continental. They are tough bikes.

Welcome - if we are talking the same place, my Father went to Rolla school of Mines many years ago.

Yes, my college used to be called Missouri School of Mines. Then it was the University of Missouri at Rolla for a while, and VERY recently (as of Jan. 08) it has become Missouri University of Science and Technology (or Missouri S&T for short).

Wonderful little town, great school, but it now has three names floating around out there and hardly anyone can keep them straight! ;)

Well, my Father went there more than 45 years ago, so I guess it is okay if they change the name...

Welcome to the forums! Orange you say ... orange is my favorite color - but for some reason I seem to only get bikes that are gold, silver or black (cept the commuter/urban off roader is blue). Orrrange. MmmmmM

Nothing like jumping in with both feet and doing a nice tear down and clean up!
