hey, I completed my first 300K brevet yesterday. I was really pleased with how everything went and the time I completed the ride in considering the difficulty of the route and it being the longest I have ever ridden in one sitting.

I completed the course in 13 hours and 17 minutes. This is a very hilly course aptly named "the hills are alive" with 11000 feet of elevation gain. This course played well to my strength's as rider, as I can climb very strongly.
And with riding to the start/finish and a slight navagational error it ended up being a double century, also my first.

This should put me in good standing to be ready for my first 400K brevet in two weeks.

I should really remeber to bring sun screen with me as on the last two brevets I have gotten sun burned. Also got a bit of hand numbness in pinky finger and my right hand, it does come back pretty quickly though.

Congratulations. You have a strong finish time and should be well poised for a 400K event.

nice! my first 300k (a few weeks ago) was a 19-hour affair...

sometimes riding in a group has its downsides, like when somebody gets four flats, and has to remove a broken fender in the ride.

Congrats on such a strong 300K! That's a fast time for pretty much any kind of route; like supcom said, it sounds like you're in good shape for the 400K.

Ah, yes. One brevet last year involved a friend breaking his seat tube (on a Ti bike). Lots of slow riding until we got to the next town, and then liberal use of hose clamps and duct tape from a hardware store got him the rest of the way in. That was a long day.
