I'm building a set of cross wheels for my project bike this summer. I've got a Phil Wood High flange flip-flop Track hub and can get my hands on a front one too. I'm curious how well this hub will work in cross environment. The wheels will be raced, commuted and trained on.

edit: I'm running single-speed, not fixed.

They're very durable hubs, judging by the numbers of london couriers that will only use those hubs. I've also never heard anything bad mentioned, other than the high price.

Good luck with the SS - I've got the fixed/disc version that will eventually build into a disc brake, powercranks fixie.

I've had them on my fixie for two summers now, and it's time to build something new (the fixie is getting surly hubs). Singlespeed cross is the way of the future!

They're heavy. That being said, the build quality is outstanding and the durability is equally impressive.

I was mostly worried about the high flange taking lateral forces less than well. I love Phil stuff, very easy to take care of too.

how is a powercrank fixed gear different from a powercrank single speed? (not making fun, honest question)

re: phils. durability should be no issue. as mentioned they're a little heavier but whatever.

i'd probably just run any old front wheel along with the phil rear, but that's just me. if you wanna match then go for it.
