General Cycling Discussion - little 500 bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Does anyone on the forum know much about the bikes used in the "little 500'in Bloomington Indiana? I talked to someone selling a 2007 Schwinn bike used in the 2007 Little 500.he said it was the womans bike and would fit a man or woman 5'10 or shorter. He purchased it thinking it was the mens version but was told by a friend it was the womans version.does anyone know the difference?they look pretty much the same.

"Little 500 bikes are rather unusual. They are single gear (46x18), coaster brake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaster_brake) racing bicycles. There are two different versions of the bike for men and women. The only differences between the two bikes are the size of the frame. Every year a new version of the bike is made and then two are given to each team. A deposit of $300 must be placed for both bikes. At the end of the season, teams are given the option to keep their bikes or to return them back to IUSF in exchange for their deposit. The used bikes are then kept at the track and are rented out to those teams that do not have old bikes."
From the Wikipedia article. I had never heard of this race personally.
