If the weather isn't horrible, Malkin and I will have the Speedster out for 1/2 of the Bike2Bike Ghost Town Century on this coming Saturday. It would be fun to meet/greet/ride with other tandem teams in the area.
We tried this as our first organized ride last year. It was cold (about 40 degrees), there was a relentless headwind on the back-side up-hill, and we were on our Diamondback hybrid (the tank). We gave it our best, but surrendered to SAG at about mile 30. At one of the rest stops, an astute rider looked at the Diamondback and commented, "Wow. That's a lot of bike!" The experience and comment motivated our upgrade to the Burley Duet shortly thereafter. And we're still pedaling TWOgether.
