Over the weekend I went to visit my younger brother at NIU. While in town, I decided to stop and check out the LBS, which is North Central Cyclery in downtown DeKalb. I'm not sure if there's another LBS in town, that's the one my brother told me to go see.
I must say, everyone there was friendly and helpful. It's an Orbea / Trek dealer, and unlike some other LBS I've been in lately, the selection of road bikes was plentiful. The store was spacious and clean, not cluttered at all.
The biggest thing was, their support of Diabetes research, and Team Type 1. I have type 1 diabetes, so it's something that means more to me than some. The guy behind the counter had a poster of Team Type 1 and pointed out a guy on the team who works at the shop. He added that they raised something like $16K last year for diabetes research. I picked up 2 "Ride to Cure Diabetes" waterbotles for a $10 donation, and this jersey [see below]. Jersey said $75 on the tag, but the guy checked me out at $50 for it. I'm not sure if he was giving me a deal, or there was a sale I didn't know about, but I was appreciative.
So, now I have a jersey that means something to me, and it looks nice too.
