If they both fit fine then if they were at different LBS' choose the LBS that you liked better.

My first adult bike was a sedona. It's a good bike. Only thing I don't like about it was the suspension fork and twist grip shifters. I'd rather have trigger shifters.

I can't complain about it. It got my big butt off the couch and planted an addiction that I haven't been able to shake. In fact I still ride the ol sedona to work since it's the toughest and best equipped.

The 8 speed on the TREK vs 7 on the Giant would have a lot of influence on me.
The TREK will be a Free Hub, while the Giant may be a Free Wheel?
FH is more desirable-

At least with my Sedona - that is correct.
IMHO the Sedona isn't really the kinda bike I would upgrade a lot drivetrain stuff on. When I had an axle give, I was gonna convert over to Free hub, but it would have cost more than the bike's worth.

My 5 year old Sedona DX is an 8 speed Cassette.... and it is listed as a 7 speed cassette.

In general, I like the new DX even with the one less cog, and disc brakes even better than what I have. Even though I would like it even more with a rigid fork (as I have adapted on my bike).

The assitional plus on the side of the Tek is that the fork has a lockout...

I think you'll be happy with either.

I would look for a similar bike without suspension fork nonsense.
Bike brands are really interchangeable.

I've never ridden a Trek, but I have a Giant Cypress that I absolutely love!! Just get a specialized avatar saddle to go with it the Sedona and you'll be good to go.

Hi Rustie,
What do you expect from a suspension fork? Have you ever used one?

Suspension forks on a city bike seem to be unnecessary ballast and parts that will need maintenance. With this geometry 90% of your weight is going to be on the butt and the rear wheel and you already have fat ( comfortable) tires on the bike. Me thinks: a marketing gimmick and that one would be better off without it.
People using regular road bikes are not masochists (although they usually use skinny tires with high pressure, and much more weight on the hands and no suspension forks).
