Pretty sure, just need to confirm I have no kid conflicts. I commuted today so I may not have to much to offer tonight.

Can't make it tonight, sorry. My oldest daughter has an audition and I need to be home with the younger. I'll plan on Tuesday.

No worries, Sam. My wonderful wife checked the board and called me to tell me you weren't going to make it. Hope the dog is okay.

Some B*tch!!!!:twitchy:

That's some serious solo numbers in my neighborhood! You would have destroyed me. I took a 30 mile commute home and had to turn what should have been an interval ride into a tempo ride. I sucked bad ... really bad!:backpedal:

Yeah, if ever there was proof that fast riders don't use bikewire, there you go...

My mileage is actually down this year (barely over 400 outside miles) and I'm only getting 1 or 2 rides in a week, so I'm trying to make them count by not letting off the gas. I was hating myself and telling myself what a worthless piece of junk I was the whole ride.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling these higher speed, lower mileage rides are going to come back and bite me when the Udder Century rolls around and I am bonking at mile 60. I'll be begging for the broomwagon, for sure. :injured:

I think I know why I rode so poorly: looks like I'm sick. Tired, sore throat, headache, sinus pressure ... Damn. Maybe it has something to do with going from 88F and getting home to 37F.

Sure, thanks. If it's either the 5:30 or 5:45 Psimet says, just so I know.

There are two groups. One at 5:30 -- they do a different route than us and much slower. Another at 6:00 -- they also do a different route, but are a little faster.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, my e-mail got lost in his mailbox :crash:

Hi guys. I work by the Sears Center so I am real close to your group. I bought my first road bike and haven't even ridden it yet but wanted to find out any info on the slower and intermediate pace groups. I figure I should start with that. What kind of distance and ave speeds are we talking about here? Anyone have links to the maps for these groups and is there someone here who typically leads them?

Psimet2001
05-19-08, 03:40 PM
Come out for the slowest one to start with. I am guessing they are in the 14-16mph range. Could be slower. Usually on these types of rides there is a ride leader who will ride sweep and make sure that you are not completely dropped, etc.

Don't know about this one for sure, but I am sure someone can fill you in. Honestly though I would just head out with a map of the area. Pretty hard to get lost (even for me).

I have a high res jpg I've made that prints great on 13x18 paper. I'll try to post it tomorrow.

Went to the doctor ... I'm on Avelox (10 days) for a sinus infection. ... As if I didn't see that one coming. :(

Still plan to be there tomorrow.

This is the wrong place to post that. Shouldn't it be in the "sandbagging" portion of Cylowe's ride?

Oh, and no bike washing this Tuesday!!! :notamused:

I don't know....kind of wanted to push myself. We all know the route. I say we play it by ear. If they start to tear stuff up ther is no shame in dropping off the back.

OK, the heat in the kettle keeps on rising. I think cyclepsyco's brother (yet another alien) was murder to keep up with. I am not sure I can hang with them if they're both there.

Midway through the ride we got pelted with a cold hard rain. I'm still shivering.

1:20:58, 21.1 avg. mph, 28.5 miles (w/o cool down), 283 avg. watts (that's high for me)

nietsmas

that rain sucked.

i've come to the sad realization that i'm just not as fast as i was last year. i think i need to lose about 10 lbs. but i feel that i'd need to make a major change to my diet.

i was dropped by the group after about 2 miles, rode solo for the rest...

Moving Time (h:m:s)1:28:50
Distance (mi )28.52
Moving Speed (mph)19.3 avg. 37.4 max.

Last night was fun, even with the pelting mid-ride rain that dropped temps 10 degrees in no time and soaked us to the bone. I just had to keep on pedaling to keep warm.

I got dropped by the front group on the first jaunt up River Rd, almost caught them on the swooping downhill, almost caught them on Plumtree the far end but fell back on the uphill just before Ridge, I could still see them on the first half of Spring Creek, but then they were gone. Dang. I was digging, but just didn't have the gas in the tank. Once the rain hit, I was just in survival mode to get back safely.

Time: 1:24:43
Trip: 28.5 miles
Avg: 20.1 Not bad for getting slowed down by the supersoaker rain... :D

It's almost 7 a.m. I think it's time for a Guinness.

eat less. ride more. count calories. every single one that goes into your body. burn more then you take in and bam, you drop pounds. it really is a simple science. later.

eat less. ride more. count calories. every single one that goes into your body. burn more then you take in and bam, you drop pounds. it really is a simple science. later.

The eat less thing is the key. I don't count calories and don't look at nutrition labels, but was able to drop a pretty good chunk of weight from the spare tire over the past few months by just putting the fork down, resisting the second portion, and cutting down my fast food intake by making sure I'm in the left lane when there is a McD's or BK or other temptation coming up on the right. I still have a few to shed, but the new McD's Southern Style Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich is pretty tasty. :o

Even with less rides and overall miles to this point in the year, I am much faster on the bike than I was last year. I think it can be attributed to tracking my treadmill/trainer workouts during the cold months, getting a scale to track the brutal truth of my progress, and not slacking around on the rides I can fit in to my schedule. Watching how harder treadmill programs got easier to do and seeing the weight come down over weeks of time is pretty cool.

I'm interested to see how this translates to a century, as my longer rides have all been hillier efforts and my fast rides have all been the Penny Road Pub route.

Windy, cool . . . again.

At least its not suppose to rain! :)

Don't know if I am in or not this week. Technically I have to pick up my son from daycare, but there is a small possibility that Nana will be doing that to free me up for the ride. Will have to play it by ear.

If not I will be in the basement. Scary things happen there.

I just got rained on while walking between buildings down here in Aurora. I will be leaving soon to even see if I have the ability to go (Nana on or off). After that I'll have to factor in the weather and what's going on. I say I'm about 60/40 right now in favor of going.

Good ride last night. I was ready to say it was too cold/windy/blah-blah-blah, but as usual I was glad that I made it out there. The temp on my cyclometer said 52 when we started and then stayed on 48 for the rest of the ride. It felt warmer after that long period of time for the legs to warm up.

Here you go, stat junkies.
28.4 miles

I can only imagine when it gets warmer that this ride will get even faster. :D
