haha...the chain. Pitcures of the chain. I canprobably diagnose it.

First time with the new and improved (read FAST) Pub group. I knew I was in over my head, but:wtf: My strengths are more AT the pub:beer: And now that I know there's a pool table, I might have to come out more regularly just so I have a good excuse for beer and pool. Maybe I should try the "early" group.:o

diagnose it.
It died. :D I could not see any twist or anything wrong. It just seemed to be a cheap chain Giant threw on there. The outer plate was bent and pin still intact -- not Shimano's special pin either. I told him he could either get a new chain, or for now, get a quick link.
I was told the ride is approx 26 miles and logged about 20, I knew I missed a turn somewhere. It was a good ride and I'll be out there again!!
You missed the turn from Ridge, Right on Spring Creek>Haeger's Bend>Algonquin/River Rd.>Braeburn>Spring Creek>Ridge>Lake Cook>Old Sutton>Bar.
I hope you can make it again!!

Here is a picture. It isn't the best, but cyclpsycho said it, just a cheapo chain.

I went back and read cyclpsychos descrption...My first thought was improper assembly - pin pulled through the outerplate. First culprit would be the Shimano linking pin, but if cyclpsycho says it wasn't then that would mean improper assembly during manufacture. :(
I'd get a new chain. For 8 and 9spd I like SRAM chains. For 10spd right now I like KMC DX10 (sold through Performance under their "Forte" brand).

So you ride Algonquin/River Rd. twice? If so, yep I missed that turn and went Spring Creek to Ridge. I'll try to make it next Tuesday.

Yes, we do that twice. The second time we turn on Braeburn though -- right, just after the curvy downhill on River. It is a nice double tiered hill. Don't worry if your not a climber, we wait and regroup at the end of Braeburn.

i picked up a new chain, Shimano's Dura-Ace for 10spd. They, Performance in Schuamburg, didn't have any KMC chains.
Thanks for the suggestions. CYA on the roads obeying the law. :D

They do...hopefully they were just "out of stock", but for future reference they sell them as "Forte" or Performance brand, but if you look at the links they are stamped KMC and also are stamped DX10.

Thank you for your suggestions. Jim@Performance said they were out. I'm going out this morning to test drive.

I'm in. Long story, but I can't check the radar on this computer, but the stats say about 20% -> and after my Caddy Shack moment last week I think I could handle it even if it did rain.
Have to make it home to install a BB for Voldemort so he can ride as well.

Haha...I figured.
Not that you are having any shortage of anyone wanting to give you advice, just wanting to remind you what I have said before...for as much grief as I throw out about being a father, and for as much of a total hell of a nightmare it was for the first year or two, it is pretty cool when that lump of flesh develops a personality.
Enjoy the journey. Nothing will EVER be the same ever again beginning tomorrow.
Seriously though you could ride tonight....it's not like you're being induced tomorrow

Your world will totally change today. Is there a steincycle in the future?
When my 2 kids were born, a son and a girl, I had an amazing feeling. It was like nothing I had experienced before or since.
Enjoy every moment of little stein's life. It is one of the best things we enjoy in life.

The coolest thing in my life was the moment my first daughter was born! Amazing!
Enjoy it.

Seriously? You haven't figured this out by now? ;)
I was feeling like poo. All that flat riding last week really did a number on me. That or poor feuling before just played around with my body. I was spiking 180bpm (higher side for me) before we even got to the sprint area. Just didn't feel right.
HR didn't come down until - get this - we hit that first hill. I hung with the group over the first little hills and didn't pop until that fast section before heading North again. They waited up and I popped next on the first set of hills. Kept them in sight through the hills and down the nice sweeper. Joined back up on the next section because they slowed to talk to the other group.
Then the little walls on that back stretch killed me. I had them in sight still as we turned back South, but after looping back East I could only catch a glimpse every now and then.
I did both loops and Braeburn, etc. Powered home on my own. I pulled in as they were getting back into the parking lot from their cooldown. I ended up with like 19mph so they were riding slow. Not many showed up.
Dan, James, cyclpsycho, myself. Then the Village Cyclesport guy (don't know his name) showed up a little into the ride.
A quick beer and some psimet story hogging and it was a night.
Oh...and there were some insanely clothed participants playing sand volleyball outside the pub.
That is all.

I rode out there today to shake the legs out after the "Stupid Week" incident I had. Couldn't just return the Zipps without riding them at least once.
Nice.
BTW - before that big bend there is a sign saying that the road will be close soon until October. Alternate routes?

Yes. We spent about 1 3/4 hrs on it. He made quite a change in my seat height. I'm also waiting for a new stem and bars to come in.

I'll be out there tonight, but my legs are sore from Sunday. Should've done a recovery yesterday. Should've been on the bike more in the week prior. Shoulda Woulda Coulda.
And, no, I'm not sandbagging. :(

Let me know what you think. I think I am in need of a fit overhaul. I've been riding the same basic setup through many drastically different weights and I am now thinking it is time for a change.

CyLowe WINS! CyLowe WINS!!!!! :thumb:
We all know it was due to my superior coaching (and not his highly tactical wheel sucking). :) But yes, CyLowe won the final sprint on last nights ride. I'm so pathetic I went there just to watch. Boy do I need to ride.
wait, this ride has spectators?? i am so going next tuesday. one of you Elgin boys plan on me changing at your pad. book it.
the goat can sprint too? congrats.

There was a sprint?
Was anyone else informed it was taking place?
And if so, I am assuming you are using the term 'sprint' in very (very) loose terms.

Feel free to stop by. I'm around all Tuesday.
You'll be just in time to see how we improvise our way around the River Road closing that apparently will be underway next week.
