C'mon Cy, you motored around the leader at the finish line with the biggest burst of slowness I've seen in weeks. :)

There we go. That's the truth we're looking for.

There was a sprint?

Was anyone else informed it was taking place?

And if so, I am assuming you are using the term 'sprint' in very (very) loose terms.

Feel free to stop by. I'm around all Tuesday. You'll be just in time to see how we improvise our way around the River Road closing that apparently will be underway next week.

Has anyone found out what they are doing to River Road?

Yup....they're closing it.

I'll be there tonight, but I'll be riding with the slower group.

I had a fit done last Friday and I'm still in the process of getting use to it.

We started with the group, but they waited for Tom who was having some issue with his back tire, so we kept going. So it ended up just being the alien and me.:D I figured, since he was getting use to that huge adjustment, for me, I could kick it up a notch. I knew I was out of my league, when 2 miles into the ride he says " I normally see these speeds on my fixed gear bike "

Later we make the turn from Haegers Bend to Algonquin River road for the 1st time. I'm doing pretty well, for me, climbing the hill. About half way up the hill I look up and, what do my eyes see, I see the alien getting smaller and smaller in the distance, but the worse part was he was practicing one legged pedal strokes :wtf: He at least could used two leggs and put the tracker beam out to help me up the hill. :)

We get back to Penny road. I look like Robert Hays from the movie Airplane, sweating up a storm at the controls of the plane and the alien looks like he was out for a nice relaxing evening ride with his kids.

Lesson learned - Ride with like beings from your own planet. :D

...he does that on the "fast" ride as well. The best is when he's hanging with you having a conversation while you're trying to figure out how to breathe. Let's just say that sometimes those are one sided conversations.

At least you were close enough to have a one sided conversation. :)

Let me know what you think. I think I am in need of a fit overhaul. I've been riding the same basic setup through many drastically different weights and I am now thinking it is time for a change.

Bob, at Wheel Werks, was very thorough. I would highly recommend him :thumb:

Between me having to get use to my position change and Collarchange trying to gather fitness, you might have a couple of domestiques on the DD ;) :D  :twitchy: :notamused:

I have no problem being a super dometique as long as you understand that to me that means I pace you up the first hill about 1/4-1/2 way before I fizzle. That's what a super domestique does ....right? :D

Hey, everyone.

I'm new here, and the subject caught my eye - PRP is right in my neighborhood, and my band is playing there a week from Friday. I've only driven down Penny Road from Rt 62 to the pub, and half of the times I'm impaired, so I can't say I'm familiar with the area.

I'm sure I wouldn't keep up with a group on the route, but I'm planning to ride portions at different times until I'm more familiar with the whole thing. PRP is about 6.5 mi from my place, so I can take the Algonquin Rd bike path to Penny Road.

I suppose my only question is what's the pace of the slow/early group? I might try to meet up with them if I can keep up.

Cheers.

The earlier group rides at a fairly comfortable pace I believe (guessing 14-16ish). Really cool people too so something tells me they'd be riding at your pace whatever that may be.

The later group is a bunch of elitist snobs....but we drink. :thumb:

This comment was completely unnecessary and uncalled for. You may find that any such exchange would end with your own front wheel and your lycra shorts wrapped around your head. Smileys all around...

I couldn't disagree more. The comment was in fact required! Too many people in our society do not stand up against evil. Someone who drives drunk is evil (attempted murder in my mind). I am willing to do whatever is necessary to stop someone from doing it.

Furthermore, anyone who would do it would be most unwelcome in our riding group. No smileys.

Does this rider have all the latest zoot equipment, such as Zipp 404's?

i.e., Are the rest of us in for a world of hurt?

HAHA....I was just thinking of doing that. They don't help anything out, and I am not sure I want to be the guy that gets dropped with the Zipps.

Not to mention they are borrowed and the less of a chance of something going wrong with them the better.

Yay me!

If you need somebody to test those, uh, zipps for you, the rest of the rig is actually new. I'm sure they'd look and ride great.

(just kidding, of course... those wheels would probably more than double the cost of my ride).

I was laughing when I picked them up because I was explaining to my wife that they cost the same as the MSRP on my rig when it was new/stock. The owner is her cousin so she can appreciate it even more.

Of course that would require magic on 2 counts....

^^^^^ Well said -- they're clinchers

Numbers for tonight:

TM - 1:27:13
DST - 30.35
MAX - 36.1
Avg - 20.8

Must have been that creek crossing that slowed down the average

Odd ride last night. I said to Psimet at one point that it felt a bit strange and that I'd be glad to just get back to the pub in one piece. Mission accomplished, I guess.

Stats for comparison...
1:28:30 time
30.2 miles
36.3 max
20.5 avg

I figured you were just saying that because I was finishing with the group. Kind of like in a "well something must be wrong in the universe....you're here....that's just a bad omen...." kind of thing.:D

What happened out there? Road construction problems? Is the normal route still OK?

The bridge on River Road, just before Braeburn, is out for repairs.

We forded the stream there after one of the more intrepid souls in our group decided it would be a good idea for people in roadie shoes/cleats to walk down through the weeds and mud, have to step into the creek, and then up the other side.

I was lobbying (not vocally enough) to just leave him on the other side and turn around, but we all followed like lemmings.

The second go around, we detoured down Church Road and then back the other way on River and up Haegers Bend. No Braeburn this week.

Fixed.

It's not Braeburn I have a problem with on that ride. It's the short hill at the end of Plumtree and then the short hill on Spring Creek just before starting the second loop. Those things are what kill me in trying to keep pace.

They look short enough to power up, which is what the aliens do, but my legs just blow up and I can't find the right gear to keep pace. Someday, maybe. Still waiting on my EPO shipment.

Psimet2001

I don't like Plumtree and the ones on Spring Creek either, but then again I tend to dislike all hills.
