It's always a bit "strange" with new people along :twitchy:

:(  :notamused:

Hey now! I was only along for half the ride. Maybe less. Probably a lot less.

I figured you guys would be able to find your way back without me!

The earlier group rides at a fairly comfortable pace I believe (guessing 14-16ish).

I've been riding for almost a month now on my first road bike. Loving it and wish I bought one a long time ago. In the 3.5 years I've owned my mtn bike I only rode 308 miles and I'm already a bit over that on my tarmac in a month. I've done up to a 40 mile ride at 17-17.5 mph average. This is riding from my house in Schaumburg over to Busse Woods and doing that loop 3 times and then riding back home. It isn't very hilly and I weigh in around 216lbs so introducing some hills will slow me down a bit. That said I think I am ready to ride with a group now and it would be great to learn more about bikes from the veterans of the sport.

Does anyone here go on the 16mph or so group ride? Seems like the posts here are from the fast group. Is this the same 30 mile ride on Tuesday nights as the fast group? Are you meeting at 5:30pm at that Penny Road Pub? I work at in the Prairie Stone Corp area so I'm right there. Hope to join you guys soon.

Hey, what's the route this week? Anyone think it out?

Just switched over to some prorace 3's I had bought to replace my last worn out set of PR2's. We'll see how they last.

i hope you get cleared to get back on the bike. however, doing the Dare? i dont know that i would risk it. seems like it will be a tough ride and all that climbing on a freshly healed collar bone?? of course, i am not a doctor nor did i stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. later.

Just an FYI - I work with Psycho. I planned it so he would have a lot of heavy lifting to do today. Add in the humidity of the day. He may have a little more difficulty leaving the earth's gravity to get back to the mother ship

You all can thank me later :thumb:

Psi ... If I were you... I'd be planning to put the hurt on me. I won't be getting any slower after tonight so kick the cr*p out of me when I'm down. :deadhorse2:

I'll try to hold on as long as I can but don't expect any pulls. 8 weeks off is a pretty long time in the middle of the season and my first ride back would be a weekly hammer fest ... sure ... why not. :)

Psimet2001

Well, I made it back to the pub. ;)

Stuck with the lead group most of the way and then cut the ride a little short. I am not used to the heat (besides being slow - as expected).

23.6 miles
19.4 average speed
150 bpm average
257 watts average

This ride does not make 200k at the Dare look very likely (100k should be OK though), but I'll try. I'm going to ride in the heat in an effort to acclimatize ... and regain some fitness.

Nice to meet ColorChange and Psimet. I might come a bit later next time so I can start with you guys and try to hang on. I got there at 5:30 and the first group left a bit after 6pm (slow group). I broke off and joined a little faster group later on. Excellent riding back there and so close to work. Looking forward to next week...

Good to see ya on a bike again :thumb:

My stats:

TM - 1:18:49
DST - 28.34
MAX - 40.2
AVE - 21.5

Not sure where I hit that 40.2, but I'll take it! ;)

I washed my bike yesterday and you see what that caused so tonight should be clear.

I plan to push hard tonight and see where I stack up, so be preparded to bring it. ;)

Besides, the last thing I want to hear from Cy is HCYS!

The bridge was still out as of Sunday. It's supposed to be finished on the 10'th so we don't have too much longer to wait. No waiding through the mud tonight.

Good to know :thumb:

We need to nail down a plan before we head out!

There is a way around the construction and to continue with the normal route (no mud involved) -- Through subdivision on left (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2144328)

This looks like a no-brainer. Keeps the wheels rolling. Good detour.

Yeah, we don't get the big sweeping downhill, but losing that is better than standing at the bridge wondering what to do.

At my weight, down-hills are far over-rated IMHO

I was a bit confused about that arrow they show on Elder Ln. :wtf: Why would it be one-way?

That would be a straighter shot back -- you might want to drag that map out after all. :D

It's probably an extra 50 yards of riding to just go the way you mapped out from Wolf > Lincoln > S River > Algonquin > Plumtree (or Braeburn on the second loop).

Stick with the plan. It's a good plan.
