Roll out is 6:30. Show up by 6:20 or so and you'll be in good shape.

Show up, JT. Someone needs to keep ColorChange in check, and you're just the man for the job.

Traffic is the only issue. I think with rush hour traffic it will take me an hour to get there.

I'm probably crazy for fighting the traffic, but I'm loading up my bike, and heading over.

i had almost talked myself into trudging my way up there tonight. almost, but i already have 4 hours of windshield time in me today (meeting in Central IL) and the drive up at this time is at least an hour. all for what? well, suffering, right? :thumb: have fun dudes. later.

I completed my first ride with the Tuesday night group.

I rode over 5000 miles last year with no knee pain, however within 20 minutes of riding with the group pain started. I don't think anyone there have heard of the term WARM UP. We immediately started at a 20 mph+ pace, and didn't let up. I am able to handle a 20 mph+ pace, but only after the body warms up.

If I participate in the ride again, I will arrive early and do a warm up ride first.

Well, I certainly tried last night and came up a bit short, but it wasn't due to lack of effort. Early on I was over 500 watts and at 100% max hr for nearly a minute. My hr goes through the roof every time I try to jump on it or hit even a mild hill. This does not bode well at all for the Dare. :(

My stats:
30.1 miles, 20.3 mph, 88% avg hr.

Cy was competiting for the win at the end. Way to go!

Must find fitness ... must find fitness!

You've been on organized centuries with the BFNIC before. 20 mph IS the warm up. You're not alone, it kills me too.

Sadly, this ride is just too far for me to ever make it.

my mother in law comes to our house one night every week and it's wednesday, so that's really my only night to stay out late for now. i've started riding the Bicycle Club of Lake County's Wednesday night ride in Lake Forest.

You're still riding the Dairyland Dare, right? We're supposed to suffer through the 100k together... :)

Well it was nice trying to keep up with you guys last night until I lost my chain off the big ring at about 6.5 miles. I tried but no way I could catch up again without the aerodynamic benefits of riding in the group. I have about twice the coefficient of drag as most of you guys and weigh a mere 217lbs :). Still a nice ride though. Completed about 23 miles or so with JT1 and another rider. I have a whole 400 miles on my first road bike now so after a couple thousand more I might stand a chance of hanging with the group on a mild ride.

I don't think anyone there have heard of the term WARM UP.

The guy leading us out was new, he also rode there, so he was warmed up. I was the guy hanging off the back of that lead-out wondering WTF? Most of the regulars know that Penny road sucks and we take it a little easier. I'm not sure why they just didn't let him go. I apologize for not making the effort to come to the front and slow the pace :o (or yell at him, but that's a different thread :roflmao2: and not us)

By the way, if you kept tabs on him, you'll notice he was OTB just after the Rt 62 crossing -- so much for that

Confirmed. When I rode there yesterday it was open enough for bikes to get through. The day before it was blocked off by bobcats and a trailer.

Psimet2001

I have been planning on riding it. I ended up getting only 3 hrs of sleep last night though. Spent the night tensioning and finishing wheels for cyclpsycho and then converting my bike back to a crit bike from the TT setup I did. Bed around 2:30. Up at 5 to conduct training at work.

Long day of standing in front of people talking....

Feel kind of woosy. Might head home and take a nap before the ride. If I don't I will definitely be OTB within sight of the parking lot.

Well...I'm guilty because I use a garmin, but I don't use it during the ride and it goes a little something like this:

"Hmmmm...doing pretty well. I feel great. Not even breathing hard this week. OK....got over the first roller in 3rd wheel. Made it to the turn with the group. Still feeling good. Don't pull here...just don't do it. Everyone will think you're an a-hole for not pulling, but better to be around to hear them call you one then be OTB.....OK here's Haeger's Bend. I need to sprint from the turn just to stay with the group. Ok....downshift and hope you're 3rd wheel into the turn so that you can take it at full speed and carry the momentum into the hill....Ouch.....Ouch......upshift or you won't keep contact.....holy crap I'm still in the group and we are over the first hill....OK stay in contact. Second hill is good. OK....sweeper...open it up and lean baby. OK....wait. Why aren't they waiting? Are they trying to teach colorchange a lesson? WTF? I could stay with them...if they only slowed down. I'm f'n redlining trying to stay in sight....I got nothing. Thoughts taking energy. Breathe. No really...try breathing. Why does everything hurt so bad. I'll pass out and my sub-concious will take over before I push myself hard enough to actually die.....right? I thought I was getting faster...WTF??!!"

Then I get back and fire up the Garming and go...."I was faster. Those aliens just opened the throttle just a little bit more. Hard to jump the bar when it keeps being raised.

Holy Crap I Suck.

Thanks Garmin :thumb:

Word.

All the data in the world doesn't help when there's a car stopped to turn left and the cyclist in front of you is slowing down for the stop sign, as well, but you think taking the corner at 20 mph is the only way to win the group ride and is worth flat-spotting the tires in a skid to prove something.... something.... what was it that was being proved again?

Trying to emulate Davis Phinney is all well and good, but I think even he would say that going through the back of a car window isn't the best way to finish a ride...

Psi, your writing really cracks me up!

Cy ... I didn't hit anything did I? ;) Seriously, I was behind so it's my job not to hit anyone ... and I didn't. Now, should I have slowed further to avoid some excitement/risk? Sure. Should the alien have shouted "Stopping", sure. Offsetting penalties, no harm ... no fouls. No?

I felt I didn't need to yell "stopping" as the SUV was stopped there in plain site. I apologize and promise I will work on my shabby group ethics  :D
