There are so many forums here and all of them have picture threads' show off your bike etc.

Why not have a gallery feature? Then move the gallery 'threads' under a gallery heading, or keep them where they are and have them redirect to the user gallery in some way. Something to that effect? I don't know anything about forum coding or PHP, but thought that since a lot of different forums have that you could have something like that. If its needed though. If people think the forum is fine without one then okay. :) Just an idea.

You will end up with issues in dealing with members who don't want their stuff moved, many or the subforum members prefer to have their stuff ONLY in that subforum, and would rather see it deleted than shared out.

Not to mention bandwidth issues, hosting server etc. With photobucket and flikr already doing a good job it becomes kind of redundant. It does work on other forums, but they are all specific to a genre, I don't know how well it would work here.

Its also relatively easy to code (at the very least its relatively easy to find existing code that will do it)

Whilst it's one thing to exercise a bit of flexibility and tolerance toward people who prefer to 'hang out' in just one or two sections of the board, that's not necessarily a productive consideration to hang forward planning on, and not necessarily a beneficial 'board culture' to endorse and support to that extent. Tends toward negativity and divisiveness if people are encouraged to remain forum section specific to the extent that section become exclusive domains where participants consider they have the right to ignore other relevent sections for the content they post. and people don't 'own' their posts after they've posted them. If anyone wants to retain control of the content they put on the internet they should publish it to a blog of their own, not to a publically available forum board, where supervisors have the responsibility and right to determine what stays and what goes.

The idea of a gallery feature is a nice enough idea, but I suspect the logistics of deploying it with such a large existing user base in place would be rather prohibitive.
