Anyone know a place that does VO2 max testing on a bike? I have bad knees and can't run on a treadmill...
I need this for a school project, I know I could make it up but I feel like it would be nice to know using a more precise method then the 2 mile run the teacher suggested.
If you've had it done please include as much info as possible, thanks!!! (ex: price, website, location, how long did it take, any other tests offered - body fat, etc.)
THANKS

Dr. Falsetti has been doing athletic testing and coaching for years. Some notable clients include many members of US Postal/Discovery Channel, Scott Tinley, Dave Scott, Rachael Hunter...and lots more.
He runs a full suite of tests that include body fat analysis (using calipers...not exactly the most accurate), blood tests, and a cardio stress test.
He has you get on your bike and pedal until you are warmed up. The machine is set to 150 watts and it increases by 50 watts every two minutes until you can't go any more.
Data collection includes:
Body Composition
Height
Weight
Body Fat %
Lean Body Mass
Blood Profile
Total Colesterol
HDL
LDL
Trigliceride
*You also get the lab results from your blood test
Cardio/Stress Tes
Resting HR
Resting Blood Pressure
Max HR
1 & 2 Min Recovery HR
Anaerobic Threshold
Max Oxygen Consumption
Total Time on Bike
Power Output (Watts)
From this he gives you a dietary plan (number of calories and grams of fat to achieve your ideal weight) plus a breakdown of your exercise zones based on your MHR.
The test costs about $500 or so and some insurances will cover a good percentage. This price includes an initial test and a follow-up about six weeks later.
I went to Dr. Falsetti prior to starting my IM training and it was more helpful than I anticipated it would be.

Some insurances will cover even more than a good percentage. :) His staff is very helpful and can call the insurance company in advance of the appointment to see how much they cover.

Not that I didn't post enough info but feel free to PM me with any questions or if you want to discuss it on the phone.
Note: I have no affiliation with Dr. Falsetti nor Healthcorp...other than having testing done by him in Oct & Nov of 2007. I'm just passing along info...not trying to drum up business.

Sweet... thanks CJ. I've been looking to do this for awhile. Plus, he's a preferred provider on my health insurance... Maybe they'll cover it!

Yep. Class of 1989.
Enjoy your time there. It is a great place. What class are you taking that has you doing this?
By the way, if you call Falsetti's office, his assistant will do the legwork for you with the insurance company. I know they don't accept HMO's.

good thing im still currently under my dad's insurance for the family! PPO ftw.
It's physci5, Diet and Excercise. kind of a BS class, but it's pretty interesting and give's me a reason to get this done. I love UCLA, i transferred from Saddleback to save a couple bucks and I'm also on the tennis team here as well.

Awesome! Does Jimmy Connors still come out to work with you guys? When Glenn Bassett was the coach, Jimmy used to come out for a few days and play matches against the guys on the team. It was very cool.
By the way...CONGRATS on a 21-1 season and a #3 ranking. Go crush Eastern Washington!!!

Nah, i think he's too busy making tennis video's and coaching. However Pete occasionally invites players to his place or comes out to hit with the team.
Billy Martin's the new coach (not really new, but current) and he's great. Robert Seguso is out here helping us now that Holden jumped off the tour to play at UCLA, he had a pretty good season.
Did you play here as well?
Our only loss was to Virginia too, and even that was 4-3 (we lost in a 3rd set clincher!)
