Sgt. Spillco
Hello Fellow Cyclists,
I’m new to this forum so I’d like to introduce myself. For some reason the first group I started riding with back in 1999 gave me the nickname Sgt. Spillco. Don’t ask my why, I have no idea? I’ve never been in the military but my last name does start with spill, perhaps that’s why?
I started riding back in 1999 at the tender young age of 42 and since that time I’ve been a dedicated roadie. At that time I was elected Captain of the Continental Airlines Cycling Team until the beginning of last year when I chose to retire. (It was beginning to get in the way of riding). During the week I ride mostly by myself and on Saturdays with the Woodlands Cycling Club. The W.C.C. impressed me so much that I joined the club and haven’t regretted the decision in the least. They’re a first class group of guys and gals that love to ride.
I don’t race but I love little grudge matches especially when riding hills. Speaking of hills, the majority of my riding takes place up North usually starting in Montgomery and up through Richards, Anderson, Willis, Huntsville, and Coldspring. I also try to ride Colorado 3 to 4 times a year and last year rode the Triple Bypass. I loved it so much I’m doing it again this year. I try and log 100 to 180 miles a week and even that doesn’t seem to be enough at times.
For a 50 year old fart weighing in at 195 lbs I hold my own but also know what a humbling sport cycling can be. There’s always someone stronger, faster, and quicker but in my opinion that’s what makes this sport so much fun. Good rides, good company, and cold beer at the finish are a recipe for a great day. ~at least that's my motto~
Anyway, that’s about it for now. My hopes are to contribute positive feedback within this forum and perhaps share each other's wheel someday.
