I just got a new campy record crankset, and putting it on was fine, except for after tightening the bolts down as much as i coudl ( i dont want to strip the threads in the bracket) there is still a noticeable gap with the crank arm and bracket. This made adjusting the front derailleur a pain and it still isnt adjusted properly. Should I try and crank the thing on more or what? thanks.

Looks like the bottom bracket spindle is too long...you'll probably need to replace it.
Are you sure the crankset and bottom bracket are a match?

yeah, i am pretty sure. the cranks went on about 1/2 an inch. and they were the same size as my other cranks. i just dont know if i should try and force them on further.

You are not sure.
The bottom bracket is not the correct size for that crank.
It looks like a Shimano BB too, which don't work well with Campy cranks.

The new Record BB has a 102mm spindle length. If your cranks are new Record then that's the size you need.
I can't tell if your frame has an English or Italian BB thread. You'll need to check the numbers on your current one.

this won't mess anything up now for the time being as i wait for my bottom bracket to arrive right? or should i avoid riding it at all costs?

Your chainline is way off, so trying to use certain gear combos could be interesting. And I'd be surprised if your front derailleur worked properly.

yeah the front derailleur only works well on the big chain ring. but other than that it should be fine and not wreck my chain rings or some ***** right?

I agree with Al and Torchy. If your crankset and bottom bracket do not match, that is, you're using ISO cranks with a JIS tapered bottom bracket spindle, it's not going to work. Check out Sheldon Brown's page on bottom bracket interchangeability:
