Training & Nutrition - VO2 question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm getting my VO2 max tested very soon and have a question...
From the VO2 info I have read it would seem like regardless of if im on a treadmill or a bike my VO2 should be the same, is this correct???
I was a competitive marathon runner prior (under 3 hours) to cycling due to knee injuries. Just wondering if I should be in for a shock when I find out that I am weak  or if I'm still a decent athlete :D
Lance did things in the wrong order....
I am under the impression that VO2 maxes will vary between sports.

... well ****
VO2max is like penis size. How it works is more important than size. Your metrics should be, for running vV02max, and for cycling, power at LT. That said, being a sub 3hr marathoner, I'd guess your V02max should be somewhere around 65.

Whatever it's gonna be, I wouldn't worry about it. VO2max is (from what I understand) somewhat trainable at least, so if it's lower than your expectations, the bright side is, you've got lots of fun VO2max intervals to look forward to! yay!! :D

I don't believe vo2max is sport dependent...however heartrate at vo2max may be affected.

Only marginally trainable, especially for someone who is already an athlete. LT is more trainable and important to work on. Hopefully his VO2 test should give him a LT HR as well.

size matters :p
as for my VO2 on the treadmill, you're pretty damn close, it was 64.something last time i was tested (about a year ago). I don't expect it to exceed 70 or anything, but staying over 60 would be nice i think.
I'm going to check with the place and see if they report the LT HR, im sure they will. This seems to also be the talk of the town around these boards

You definitely want a sport-specific test. There can be a substantial difference. My running lactate threshold is way different than my cycling.

Running is more of an impact sport and uses more overall muscles than cycling. It should, theoretically, give you a slightly higher VO2max.
In my case, it gave me a lower VO2max because I haven't run a day of my life since HS 1-mile tests, and I am much more used to suffering on the bike.
