The Kissena website (http://kissena.info/track/2008SaturdayCoaching.pdf) says track coaching starts this Saturday. Any one know what time?

Do people generally ride out there or drive?

there's a split between who drives and who rides. a lot of the older people (in their thirties, with houses and families and, well, cars) drive. and a lot of us fun-lovin' kids ride out there. it also varies based on how far people live. a buddy of mine who lives in sheepshead bay, well, i think he usually drives.
did you notice this on the flyer?

i think i heard something about them usually starting around 10 AM, but don't take my word for it.
yeah i saw the phone number, i just figured i'd try here first rather than bother him. i'm sure he gets a lot of calls.
i'm in manhattan, maybe ill try to drive for the first one and see how tired i get

if you have a double-sided wheel, i recommend riding. throw a lower gear on there. the ride to is a nice warmup, and the ride from is a nice cool-down. of course, that's if you feel comfortable riding your track bike in traffic.
do you intend to come out for the wednesday night races?
i have a flip flop fixed/free wheel. i took off the freewheel because i thought i read something about not having uncovered cogs on a track bike in case of a crash. i could ride but its like 10 miles which is a bit too much warm up/cool down for me.
yeah i'm planning on doing some races this year. i think its mondays and wednesdays? mondays are better for me

Mondays are for Masters, Women, and Juniors. Wednesdays there are races for 1/2/3, cat 4, and cat 5/one-day licenses.
women, masters, and juniors can also race on wednesdays in their categories.
i encourage you to ride out - it's more fun. there are some decent routes, depending on where you're coming from, of course. and the 7 train is fairly close if you're too exhausted to ride back.
when i'm tired after a handful of races, it's kind of a groan to get back on the bike with thirteen or miles left to go... but it's not so bad once you get in to it.

Plenty of people race with flip flop hubs with cogs on both sides at Kissena. I can't see how it could possibly cause problems in a crash either. I wouldn't worry about it.
And my ride from work is about 10 miles, it's not that bad. If you have enough time you can just take it slow and enjoy a nice leisurely ride out to the track.
