Ha!, filed under "pets".
Osage Station Park is on the south side of town, east of 680 getting close to San Ramon.
I think the current thoughts are that there are mountain lions living in the hills to the west and they sometimes make it to Danville and Lafayete through creeks and trails. Very very few confirmed mountain lion sightings on Diablo ever.
I was watching the story on the news... pretty crazy. I've only seen one wild cat since I've been riding and it was a lot smaller. Either way, big or small I really don't care to test my luck against those little monsters.

I know there was one in Antioch on a hill by my house a few years ago. I didn't believe it at first, but a neighbor made a video and the city confirmed it.
I'm kinda rooting for them as long as they don't attack people. I think we can spare a few pets.
I'd love to see one, or even see a bobcat. I get thrilled when i see raccoons or possums. Birds of prey make my day. An owl on my late night bike commute is a wonderful surprise.
On a related note a neighbor is SHOCKED that we have coyotes in the giant field behind out houses.
Heck, I see 'em all the time on Empire Mine road. Don't people realize we live in the world?
Don't people realize we live in the world?Unfortunately, I think a lot of people don't, and some who do resent it.

I was doing a MTB night ride out in Shell Ridge area a few years ago. We descended down into Castle Rock on one of our "secret trails" and there was a fresh torn up deer next to the trail. We though about it briefly and went on our merry way. About an hour later as we descended on the same trail, the deer was gone.
We kinda rode a lot faster after that with the thinking that the slowest is going to get it.

We have quite a few Bobcats down here in south San Jose. I even had one sleeping in the middle of the bike path once along Coyote Creek.
Once I startled one and it dashed up a cliff on my right.. across the road in front of me, and up the cliff to my right. In a split second. I swear its feet never touched the road. Scared the crap out of me, and if one of these cats want to take you out.... you're a goner.

If the lions are scoping out the pets, what might be out in the yard playing with those pets? Hopefully, the lions will stick to the blacktails.

I had a bobcat cut in front of me recently on a ride also. I also saw a mountain lion in my neck of the woods last year.
Bobcats are not in the same threat category as a mountain lion, though.
