I thought It was the 18th? I would have been riding solo!
Just kidding...I am, Curtis, and maybe Alan (sesame crunch). I may have to drive up on the day of the ride though don't think I can afford to stay. I'm about 1650.00 short on my AidsRide and I'm up to 600.00 on cost for traveling and hotels this spring on travel fees so far,:p

I'm officially wimping out of this one. I have come to terms with the fact that I'm simply not an endurance type of rider. It's not what turns me on, it's not what my body likes.
That and the fact that I'm a big fat wimp :o...

That and the fact that I'm a big fat wimp :o...Perhaps there should be a Davis Haffle (not necessarily in Davis) ride the same day for the regular folk. Fifty-ish miles of pleasant riding. :)

You are definitely not of Irish stock! I knew it all a long... Are...you...aaahhh FRENCH! I knew it! Well I hope you enjoy the day lounging with your white wine and brie...;)

I think you might be over-promising, Pete -- I don't remember any magnets last year. Or are those only for the podium finishers?

I foolishly listened to Taxi "Sure you can do it" 777 and signed up. It's a long flippin' way, further than I've ever tried to ride before.
Even if I live through the ride, will I have the enegry to drive home?
I am honestly waking up in the middle of the night asking "What have i gotten myself in to?"

Sputid Question:
If you signed up early you can just show up in the dark on Saturday morning right? :twitchy:
You don't have to check-in on Friday night... Riiiight?
I've read it several times and I'm still not 100% sure.

Site seems to say unless they sell out, which they don't usually do, you can register and ride. Same day IS kinda pricey.
I'm not sure if you can sign up Friday night at teh pasta thaing, or have to wait till morning. I'd try Friday night. Have you tried emailing them?

You do have to check in. Even if you have paid for registration, you have to check in, either Friday or Saturday. They have to know you are on the road, or if you had to cancel.

You need to get your rider number and a route sheet -- you can do that at 5AM if you don't do it the night before.

You know, that was kinda funny, back in...'86 I think it was...the night before this very ride, my friends and I sat down to a pasta dinner and watched Pee Wee's Big Adventure before the big ride. Hopefully y'all won't be running into Large Marge on the road.

I am beginning to worry about this ride...
Why the late start? I've been unable to sleep for the last week. I am scared spitless. I'm doing massive voodoo on my bike. I'm foregoing wine and fun this week. I almost started packing last night because I'm so worried I'll forget my shoes or glasses or bike or something.

Heck Yeah! :thumb:
I'm bringing a folded tire, sunblock, lip balm, phone/money/ID bundle, 2 gel flasks, 2 servings of HEED* in Ziplocs, 3 Clif Bars, 2-24oz bottles and relying on rest stops for everything else. Yep! Just a short sleeve and shorts even at 5am... Gonna be 60 degrees.
We'll all do fine as long as we don't neglect the heirarchy of cycling needs.
Extra sleep, no beer, lots of food, very little training... This week is going to ROCK!!! :wtf:
*Gave it a 2nd try this weekend and I'm a convert. Love the no aftertaste aspect and lack of initial sugar rush. I (like many others) was initially put off by NO COLOR and NO FLAVOR (unless you call that hint of vanilla-ey citrus flavor) on my first try. Very gentle on the innards.

I know it sounds miserable but look at the positives... Probably no wind whatsoever. It'll be in the low 60's at the start (no icy toes/fingers or chattering teeth) and the home stretch in the valley is going to be incredibly ambient. We'll be in Lake County at the peak of it all and it's only supposed to be 90 (last time I checked). Top your bottles at every stop/ sunblock every 2-3 hours and you'll be golden (figuratively). I'd take heat over the wind we've had here the past 2 days. It's going to be great.
