I know it sounds miserable but look at the positives... Probably no wind whatsoever. You dare tempt nature? You could get both. It's supposed to be 98 degrees with 20-30MPH winds here tomorrow.

But I don't know why I need to know this number.

it's not so much that *you* need to know the number. rather, *they* want to know who you are. if i'm remembering correctly, the Davis Double actually gives you three iterations of your number that you must identify yourself with -- one goes on your helmet, one on your jersey, one on your bike.

Curtis,
You'll need battery backup for your Garmin when it runs out of juice ... and it will.

Got it covered. I made a "Minty Boost (http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/)" battery charger/extender just for this ride!

Got anything to add?

Tums
multi-tool
spoke wrench
towelettes

are all things I like to bring on really long rides -- even on ones as well-supported as the Davis Double.

Good adds. Though if I need a spoke wrench I'm screwed. I've never used one and would just make a mess.
+1 on the towelettes

+1 - if it's really chilly in the morning and I don't want to carry both long fingered and short fingered gloves, I'll also wear these under the short-fingered gloves until it warms up. Surprisingly effective.

Didn't get a flat all winter and first half of spring with the bulletproof Maxxis ReFuse tires I was rolling. In the month I've been back to GP4000's I've had two (2nd being tonight at dusk in the boondoggles... FUN! :wtf: ). I have two tubes in my pack for Sat. No way in hell I'm patching any tubes in that heat. Phew! I was more winded changing a tire than when I was battling the dreaded delta headwind... Let us pray for good mechanical fortune!

You won't have that problem this year. It's gonna be hot.

Hope that the north wind dies. It's been 15-20+ mph the last couple of days...

Yesterday at 6pm my thermometer read 97 degrees, but with that wind it felt pretty good outside. Wind will also be at our backs on the home stretch if it remains a north wind.

Currently 95 with NNW wind at 12mph... It's only 1pm! :twitchy:

I saw this video of the course:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQz1EYt-M_M

Seems like there is alot of traffic for the whole ride, and not much of a shoulder.
Is this what it is like on the course? 14 hours of cars whizzing by might add
to the fatigue.

Also- Does anyone know where the pre-ride checkin is tomorrow?
This link says it will be posted but it seems kinda late to decide.

I was going to register tomorrow. Anyone know where it is?

Good luck everyone.

Thanks, mike

Did you get an email: ?
A reminder that preride checkin will be held Friday, May 16, from 5p.m. until 8:45p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center, 14th and B Sts., in Davis; this is also the start/finish for the ride on Saturday. If you are unable to make pre-ride check-in on Friday evening, you may check in on Saturday morning between 4:30a.m. and 5:30a.m.; no check-ins after 5:30.

They've made it really simple this year and every thing is in one spot.

BTW don't psych yourself out. Have fun...After a 25 mile warm up you wont be worried about anything! You'll get caught up in the spirit of it all and encouraging others to make it and you'll forget about yourself and the next thing you know you're sitting around eating chicken and laughing about some of the experiences, also thinking about how you'll do it better next year. TRUST ME!!! If you're still worried, ride with me and I'll make you laugh till ya puke!:thumb:

I hope we're finished the Monticello century by noon tomorrow. If not, we're gonna bake.

There were a whole lot of people on the course after 4:30 me included.

It was horrendous out there today. Very hot with a drying wind. It felt much hotter than the weatherman said. It was the worse heat I have ever encountered on a century/double. Many veteran DD riders said it was the hardest Davis they had encountered. I finished but I suffered. Full report tomorrow.

Around mile 50, I hit some gravel in a turn on the backside of Cardiac hill and bit the dirt at 35 mph.
That ended my day as the bike was no longer ride-able, and I was a bit out of sorts.

I met a rider back at the hotel who had ridden 25 davis doubles and he bailed saying it was too hot.

We're all good. Curtis and Pete started about an hour before I did but I caught up to them in Guinda (mile 160) as they were heading out of the stop. I again caught them at the Davis city limits and we all finished together. By far the most brutal thing I've ever done. 15 hours start to finish... Phew! Cup O' Noodles saved my life!
