I bought a truing stand the other day and after great success with my beater wheels, I decided to give the good set of road wheels a checkup. The front is radially laced, and I've run into a problem. I'm pretty sure is unique to this type of wheel - a couple of the spokes spin when I try to adjust the spoke tension. This obviously doesn't happen on standard wheels because the 90 degree bend at the spoke head would keep it from spinning. I haven't opened up the hub yet, but I would imagine I either:

1) this is really common, there's an easy way to fix this and I'm an idiot.

2) whatever holds the (staight pull ?)spoke firmly in the hub may have chipped or stripped away, allowing the spoke to spin.

3) I have a broken spoke head inside the hub - There is some tension on the spoke and no noise when I spin the wheel, so I doubt this.

thoughts, advice or past experience sought.

what type of wheel do you have? there are many different variations on radial laced wheels and some may have special spokes... if the spoke head was broken however, you would likely be able to pull the entire spoke out and the wheel would be clearly out of true by a large amount.

A few wheels actually tighten at the hub flange. Can you post some pics?
