Since I saw so many people on the cat/dog thread saying how long they have been married. I was wondering how long everyone has been married.
We will get to the divorced people in a little while.

It is not apparent if the years are cumulative. If someone was married twice for 8 years each time where do they vote? I have only been married (still am) once and for only 7 good years.

Should be a lot in this group over 30 years. Should have had a higher range. Will have our 38th anniversary in a month and we are only 62 years old.

Just kidding , all 31 of them have been good and they just keep getting better.

How should I vote if I am a polygamist - can I add up the years for each wife?

My wife and I are statistical outliers. We were both in our 40s when we married for the first time. I'd say it was worth the wait. If I didn't she'd hit me in the head with a frying pan. (Just kidding, dear).

We are coming up on our 35th anniversary in June, but she has been my steady girl since late 1968, when we met as UCLA freshmen (freshpersons?).

Local cycling legend Gordy Shields and his wife have been married 62 years.

Once my wife and I were talking with a friend and the friend asked, "How long have you two been married?" Without thinking, I said, "For fu*king ever."

Here's some advice for the married men here. Don't say that.

30.5 years for us. Oldest child just turned 29. Next year we have to cope with the reality that we have a child who is 30.

Louis - we know you are funny goofy, and we know you're not crazy.
Married is a state of mind?

But on a serious note....
If I had changed wives as often as I've changed jobs there would be a better excuse for me being broke.

28 years this August and 30 years together this October/November (still can't agree on that date). Met Red Rider in a laundry mat in San Antonio. She was wearing boy scout shorts that were way to small and a tee shirt that said "It takes balls to play tennis". She was impressed because she said I knew she had eyes. It took several years before I confessed that she just never caught my roving eyes.

I am so lucky and blessed.

Hey, those shorts fit me just fine! ;)

I totally agree that I'm blessed to be with this great guy for over 1/2 of my life. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Married to my High School swetheart for 32 years come 2 July 08, both of us were 19 at the time. I knew I wanted to marry her just had to convince her I was worthy. Best thing I ever did, hands down. She is my riding partner too, got her started in 1978.

Married 33 years as of April 5, 2008.

I was visiting my brother last weekend. Posted on the family fridge was a note that the perfect husband had a closed mouth and open checkbook. Perhaps this is why I've made it this far.

First wife and I could only tolerate each other for five years. My second wife, and love of my life, has been able to tolerate me for 28 years. However, if I buy or build just one more bicycle, I may be putting this in jeopardy.

No disrespect or slight intended toward the folk who have followed the formalities. I enjoy a good wedding too. My own impression of the best of them are when the formalities are attended to in fairytale fashion, the bride and groom's parents get inebriated enough at the reception to embarrass the newlyweds into leaving a bit early to get on with what they got married for, and everybody settles down to a rollicking good time.

But it's also really good to be in the company of somebody else with such a healthy attitude as yours. 34 years together here for Mrs CW and myself.

The subject of the formalities has arisen a couple of times during that period. The first of those was about 10 years in, when Mrs. CW realised that having the certificate would make the paperwork a bit easier for the passport she needed to get for an overseas trip. I laughed at the proposal, and that was end of story. For then anyways.

It arose again a few years back, and this time at my own initiation. I'd been reviewing some paperwork and future planning (wouldn't you just know it) and realised that our 'defacto marriage' wasn't really a 'fact' at all with respect to us being able to claim each other's superannuation and workplace insurance payouts. This time it was Mrs CW who laughed at the idea. Our daughter is the 'legal' beneficiary, and of course the only 'problem' which really exists is a paper one. Our daughter and son-in-law are also our best friends, we share our lives with perfect trust and faith in each other. If the requirements of "the man" necessitate an extra step in a process some time then we'll make it an occasion for get-together.

I don't care that the poll options didn't lead to a bell curve, by the way. I reckon it's great to see so many folks who have made the commitment and stuck with it for the long haul.
