The cable stops on the top tube are on the right side. As a result, you get a much smoother cable routing if you switch the brake levers so that the right lever controls the front brake and the left lever controls the rear brake.
Was it intentional on the part of Surly to do this? Are any other cross bikes set up like this? I know that some cross riders swap their brake controls to make dismounts easier.
BTW, I swapped the cables and my brakes are a little more smooth.

Hmmm....I had not noticed that...just routed it standard. That might explain the drag I can't get rid of in my right/rear lever.
I know some 'crossers switch brake mounts, but I hop off to my left and would rather have my front on the left due to that, because I seem to be able to get more control out of the front brake. So, I hop off left and grab the bike with my right, then hook and grab the bar.
Similarly, getting on the left/front is right there in my hand and I just hop on that way.
Interesting note, though.
