I appreciate your concern Tom, but I'm not really interested in resolving this privately. What I and many of the other people caught up in this fiasco want is to know what the rules are. Should we expect to log in and not see words that are not our own posted under our user names? Should we expect to be able to know what the standards are for what's acceptable and what isn't? If we are banned from a forum, should we expect to be told why?
Hint: the answers are either "yes, yes, yes," or "nope, this is our little accountability-free Potemkin village, deal with it or show yourself to the door."

Allright, all of the admins, including myself have offered you the same opportunity to air your grievance in private so we could have an unencumbered discussion. This doesn't belong on the open forum.
If you aren't willing to help me solve this, there's only one conclusion I can come to, and that's that you aren't doing anything but carrying on the drama. Discuss it with me where we can do so without disrupting everything, and we can solve this. I'm not trying to hide anything, I'm simply trying to have the discussion without distractions or noise.

Look, I see your position here, but whether or not there is any transparency, rhyme, or reason to how this forum is administered is not at all a private matter. If there's something you want to tell me privately, PM away, but I have a hard time imagining what you'd only be willing to say privately that you'd want to say at all.
There's really not anything to be discussed or solved, there either are rules and standards around here or there aren't.

They've all seen this message, and it has been discussed among the mods/admins. You know as well as I do what happened, Brian banned a bunch of people he didn't like from SSFG despite our not actually having broken any rules. Many of the banned people have been quietly reinstated after negotiating with some of the other admins. I'm not particularly interested in that, I'd just rather know what the rules actually are and how I broke them. If there are no rules and people can just get randomly banned, I'd like y'all to just go ahead and admit that and we'll all proceed under that assumption from now on.
A post was also edited to misrepresent the original user's comment without their permission. Visible tracking of edits has now been implemented, which is a good step. I appreciate whoever was behind that.

Whoa! Let's stick to the facts. A handful of members that can't follow some simple guidelines had their access to SSFG restricted. I did not ban a bunch of members. But you'd like to continue to perpetuate that argument. Much like the one about your post being edited. If anything, inappropriate language was removed from your post. That's the only editing that would have been done.

FYI, that edit stamp is retroactive. If someone edited your post, it will now show who did that, the date, and the time. There is no way to alter one post and leave others in a particular forum alone - it's an all-or-nothing kind of feature. Since we still have no idea which post you believe was altered, perhaps you can check it for an edit stamp.

Let's indeed stick to the facts. For over a week now I've been explicitly asking what guideline(s) I violated. This question remains unanswered. Facts are sorely needed here.
The post that was edited involved no profanity or inappropriate language, since you're so excited about the facts I'd appreciate it if you didn't make spurious allegations like that. The situation was that a mod deleted a previous post (which was also not inappropriate) and wanted to remove my post's reference to it so as to cover their tracks. In the process they messed with what I had written so as to make it look like I meant something that I didn't. So please, enough with the line that a post would only be edited if it used inappropriate language, we both know that's untrue.
I miss all the people who "left". Stacey, VV, that Montana guy, KT hasn't posted in a while (all Foo of course), hi565 got demodded without warning, ect. *sigh* Foo rocked a year ago.

You probably won't find it, it was deleted, or else it was moved into the mod-only sandbox, in which case I guess it may still be out there. You won't have any trouble finding it if it's still out there, a few posts down in the thread you'll also see a post from me to the effect of "what the ****, who edited my post?" It's got to be in my last 100 posts, and it will be right around 2 weeks ago when mod squad got a bee in its bonnet about SSFG.
If you're willing to dig through old posts to resolve this mess, I'd appreciate it if you'd find the one where I broke a rule or guideline that resulted in me being banned from SSFG.

The original post by another user that was completely deleted suggested that people go to cyclingforums (a tiny, mostly dead site) to escape the heavy modding in SSFG. As a complete joke, I suggested serottaforums instead, most people who care know that board makes the average level of moderation here look like a frat party at 2am and is generally populated with middle-aged, high-$$$ roadies who think internets bicycle discussion is serious business, pretty much the exact opposite of SSFG. I don't think anyone would believe I was seriously suggesting that we load up the *********s and arrrsporks into the SSFG cheese wagon and roll over there, it was a total joke. Whoever the mod was nuked the original post and edited the quote and the serottaforums reference out of mine so that it looked like I was the one suggesting an exodus, and now you're accusing me of trolling and disruption. I think you can see why this is a problem. I don't particularly care who did it, but that mod should be reminded that impersonation is a banning offense around here, and if I'd used another user's account and edited one of their posts in that manner I would be out of here.
But since you've now admitted that that post wasn't why you tossed me from SSFG (since you just now found it and all), would you care to answer my original question of what rule or guideline I broke so as to get tossed from SSFG?

Back to basics one more time. Brian banned me from SSFG. After more than two weeks he's still trying to figure out a way to justify this under stated rules of the site. I'm sure that given this much time he will sooner or later be able to figure out some cobbled together excuse whereby I obliquely violated some guideline or did something that fell under the rubric of "disruption" (whatever that means). It might even have to do with my reposting of an off-color joke he himself posted on the forums and I reposted several times to keep him honest.
I respectfully submit that when it takes this long for a mod/admin to come up with the reason why he banned someone, that explanation should be considered a completely ex post facto justification with no bearing on the original motivations. How can it take someone over two weeks to figure out why they did something? At any point in this mess Brian and the rest of the mod team could have publicly admitted what we now all know, which is that I and some other members were banned not for violating the rules (which I'm sure under some strained construction it could be plausible that we did), but because the mods simply didn't like us. Come on here folks, just admit the truth and I'll be happy to pack it in.

First of all, the edit stamp feature wasn't even functional until the night of May 12th, which is when Maelstrom was able to fix the code. We were literally unable to determine that any post on any of the forums was edited until that time. You yourself refused to give us any idea which post or thread you were referring to or much in the way of any information at all except that we should somehow know exactly what post you were talking about. I'm sorry to hear that you make no connection between that and the length of time it took us to figure out what you were talking about, but it seems you're hoping we admit we had some sort of plan that never existed in the first place.

You lost your access to SSFG, which would have been the work of one of three people. Considering that one of the two that are not me did twice as many as me doesn't really put the odds in my favor. But you'll continue to make your ASSumptions.

I assumed it was you that banned me from SSFG since you threatened to do it, at one point asking me to post something inappropriate and get it over with (those were pretty much your exact words) in order to give you an excuse to do so. If it was someone else who pulled the trigger, my apologies. And just to be clear, is "ASSumptions" meant to be an insult? I'd appreciate it if you'd keep this civil and follow your own rules re: insulting other members. In case I'm not being clear here, my underlying point throughout this whole thing has been that the mods on this site act like the rules don't apply to them, whether it's insulting people, disrupting threads they don't like, posting inappropriate content, editing posts in a misleading fashion, or banning people from boards when they haven't broken any rules.
I'd be happy to participate on this site if you'd restore my access to the forum where I've been doing 90% of my posting for the last year or so. One of the three mods you mention banned me from it without giving any justification or (assuming it wasn't you) warning.

Sorry if I'm being unclear, what I've been waiting for for over two weeks has been the reason why I was banned from SSFG. I'm assuming that someone will cook up some reason at some point, but again, why should this be taken as credible after this long? As for why I did not initially state which post was edited, I think it's pretty obvious that I was hoping to get some mod or admin to state what the rules were on this before we discussed the particular case. That's really the only way for rules to work, if you can make them up after you've taken an action that was supposedly bound by them they're not really rules.
