I have checked the Bike Friday site, but either I cant access the page that has this item listed, or it's not currently available. I was wondering if there were any other ones out there on the market that might work. I love the idea of packing the bike into a hard case, getting off the plane unpacking it, sticking my carryon bag in the emptu case. hooking it up to the back of the bike and riding off into the distance.

I also wonder, is it even possible to get your bike into a carry on size bag? will airlines LET you take your bike as carry-on even?

16, 20 inch folders?

You could do what you're talking about with several bikes (I've flown with both a Downtube FS and an Air Friday), but there's really no way to get a bike into a carry-on. Even if you could, it wouldn't get through security.

Put together time is going to be an issue. For my Friday it was about a 1/2 hour and the DT was closer to a full hour. It's easier to take it to your hotel and assemble it in your room. Trying to do it in baggage claim of a big airport would suck.

I have a set of Dahon AIRPORTER SUITCASES that work good for my wife and I for our Dahon Speed TR 24s. Packing time for getting them in the case is about 45 seconds. Unpacking and rideable is about 30 seconds.

Those are very nice, but expensive. They aren't the size to qualify as normal luggage, are they?

Yea, I saw the one that dahon offers, but I'm leaning more toward the bike friday one since it converts into a trailer....which I'll need since I won't be using a car really AND I'll be living in my tent most likely for part of the trip. I wonder if the bike friday one will fit my Dahon though?--the hitch system seems different.
