Mebbe this belongs in F&R but you guys are my other family... :)

Perhaps you saw this little girl riding her bike the other day...

Dani's first ride ! (http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/video/daniride2.MOV)

I am so proud of my little girl (she's 8) as she has really worked hard at learning how to ride and even today when she got home she had to go out and practice riding despite the cool temperatures and constant rain.

At dinner she was eating broccoli and had second helpings along with the butter chicken and rice... like her dad she also loves her curry.

She explained that she had to get all her food groups so she could be strong enough and have enough energy for riding her bike and has also been doing arm curls with the 5 pound hand weights (she's barely 40 pounds) and I even caught her doing sit ups.

She wants to be stronger... for cycling.

It's not hard to tell where she got this from and she has even inspired her older and much more bookish sister to get out and work on her skills and she said that riding her bike was the best thing ever and wants to get out when it stops raining.

Perhaps she has a future as a pro cyclist...

:D

You're suppose to put it on youtube so we can make a bunch of ******** comments about it.

**** I'll do it anyway:
Looks like she's got taking the lane down, but she should have stopped and yelled at that guy for walking the wrong way on the street.

Excellent!

My 6 yr old was giving advice to one of his classmates yesterday on putting a plastic bag over your bike seat when you park it for the day so it doesn't get rained on all day and get your bottom wet on the ride home.

I have created a fiend... the girl wanted broccoli in her lunch today.

Awesome story Sixty. I love riding with my boys. My three year old came home from school the other day, immediately put on his helmet, and wore it all through dinner time, as we were doing for a ride after dinner. He wanted to go out and practice on his bike before the ride, and kept reminding me of that fact as I tried to get food on the table.

Like your daughter, both boys ate all their food, so they would have energy for riding. That and I told them no bike ride if the did not eat well.

I spent a little time in the shop today tricking out the girl's ride... it needed a new saddle and got ergo grips, I hooked up a front brake ( moto style), replaced the chain with a KMC rustless, and of course, put on new uber pink 2.125 tyres.

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/barbie1.jpg

Added a serious bell too...

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/barbie2.jpg

Had to get this sticker...

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/barbiesticker.jpg

And the girl was ecstatic over the upgrades and took to using the front brake immediately... I set it up with a longer lever with reach adjust so she can get good leverage and a light action.

Dig the lavender rims too.

6 yr old is content w/ superflash blinky & headlight (which he has to unclip and bring into school, has had one stolen already). And oh yes a bell.

3 yr old won't ride w/o sippy cup of lemonade and stuffed bunny in basket:

Hardy - I love the look on you daughter's face and of course you need a tippy cup full of lemonade.

I like the looks on the faces of the couple behind the kids.

Mom's are welcome to post their pics too... :)

Geez, it's amazing what 5 minutes of work can produce...along with a lifetime of followup. You must be very proud Hardy.

They are lots of fun, no doubt. 6 yr old rode in the street today going to school, a delivery truck was blocking his preferred sidewalk route. Pretty funny, he asked 'which side of the road do I ride on, again?', just wanted to double check I guess before he hopped the curb and was off. It's a neighborhood so pretty much safe enough for what he did.

I like that footrest on the trail-a-bike BlastRadius! My own 3 yr old really likes to sit on ours but I haven't taken steps to set her up to ride on it. Mostly it's for moving the 6 yr old at closer to road-like speeds, and the 3 yr old goes in a trailer for that sort of thing. But she is totally Type A do it herself, and he is totally Type Z 'whatever, dude', so she is always pushing her edges and he is pretty much not.

My youngest daughter and I went for a good ten blocks last night through the 'hood and picked up ice cream.. she really liked beiung able to carry that home in her basket.

It was too funny... every time a car passed us she'd say "maniac!"

The force runs strong in this one.

My kids have a day off from school today...

She brought me my morning coffee today and had already done her hair, had her helmet on, and her reflective leg band strapped on.

She's presently riding up and down the block under the watchful eye of her big brother, sister, and the dogs and in a little while we are going down to dad's shop to do some wrenching.

She wants to be able to ride to the shop with me on Saturdays... it's a 20 km round trip and we might use the trail a bike for that.

I took my 6 yr old for a 9 mile roundtrip out to stripmallia on the trail-a-bike to help him get his latest lego set at Target. Made it back in time for his bath which my wife did not think was possible when we were leaving (well, it would have taken 2 hrs if he was riding his own bike, he is a firm believer in slow and steady). I was debating whether to take the t-a-b off my bike at the rack so as not to obstruct it too much but really Friday night at Target... anyway, we were quick and there were no bikes awkwardly positioned fitting around it so I didn't feel too bad.

I have a t bike as well in the event we decide to take some longer trips... the girls love coming to the bike shop and the other day (Friday) they were even turning wrenches on my oldest daughter's bike as we were doing some changes / upgrades.

They loved it.

The return trip to the shop is 20 km so might be a little far for my 8 year old, despite her mad skills, so the trail a bike is a good thing.

Flip it!! ;)

I hope my little girl (currently 3.5 y/o) becomes that interested in cycling.

She has a Dora bike, but she does not like riding it too much. She has taken an interest in little brother's trike though.

Did a quick dozen with my 11-y-o yesterday. He's mostly there for the time with me, which is great. I need time to ride hard for me and slow for him and his 9-y-o sister. We got out for a short ride with sister and about 8 for dad and son. Boy child is now telling me he wants to do the Lancaster Covered Bridge Metric in August. I looked at him and said, "We'll need more miles, lots more miles." Now we need to go out and get them.

Soooooo cute !

My little animal is putting her feet i[ as I hear elevation and ice are always good for injuries... I don't think she will need skin graft or anything although if she keep this up she'll never be able to wear a short skirt or have to find a fellow that digs scars.

:D - maybe this is a good thing

She was demonstrating her newfound ability to stand up and mash on the pedals !

Eek! My youngest sis (7-going-on-8) and I are easy bruisers too! Last time I fell off a bike I looked like a battered wife for a little over a week. Her last bad accident where she fell off her scooter caused battered kid bruising too, and her teacher had to call my parents to check!

Oh well, if/when I have a kid s/he'd better not be an easy bruiser.

My wife is an easy bruiser. She was wiped out for months after an MLK day ice slick bike accident. Bruised legs are just life in grade school, to the point where I'm surprised if my 6 yr old has a non-bruised patch on his legs...

When I was about that age I used my bike basket to bring home frogs, toads, salamanders, turtles, and any other strange creature I could freak mom out with.

I still do that today on a different level: I'm dragging home boys on bikes with freak-out appeal.
