So last night after work I tempted fate and went on my first real ride in about two years. Did about 12 miles, mostly flat, in about 45 minutes. As I was riding, approaching a 4 way stop sign, i noticed another cyclist directly opposite me. I made a right hand turn and checked over my shoulder a minute later. He was following me.

A couple minutes pass and up ahead i see a large group of cyclists approaching. At this point, i noticed one thing and another thing happened.

1.The Cyclists were riding probably 4 abreast and were pretty 'scattered' in the pack - no lines or anything, looked more like a free-for-all. They were also holding up traffic big time and didn't seem to care.

2. The Cyclist following me sped up and passed me when we caught sight of this group. He then proceeded to slow down and drift into middle of lane, forcing me to break and pass on his right. He thought I was turning around, as apparently thats what he was doing, to ride with the pack. Only problem being that there were about 10 cars waiting to pass the bunch.

On a side note, a body was found in a lake yesterday morning too. I'm pretty sure i rode past that lake as i saw police tape, police car, police man, and a news van all parked (tape surrounding lake) together near a lake.

If this had been a couple of days later I'd guess you ran into a critical mass ride, but being on a Wednesday (CM is usually the last friday of each month) I don't know what to make of it. Sounds like cyclists behaving badly to me.

<sigh> We have our club rides and we follow good bicycle road riding rules that include signaling, stopping at stoplights/signs ---- and no more than 2 across. Sometimes some new riders mass together and begin a conversation, rather ignoring everything else - but as ride leaders we tell people. Now there another loose club in town that use our maps, etc --- and don't give a snit about where/how they ride - blow signs, ride in a group ignoring if cars are behind them or not. These guys give us a bad name unfortunately.

Yeah, I was surprised. The MS 150 was this past weekend I think...part of my commute last week had sings "CYCLISTS AHEAD" but that was the other side of town from where i was riding...personally, having googled clubs in this area (which are almost non existant) i'd put my money on them being the Windermere Roadies. An 'unofficial' club, but from their website/forums they seem pretty cocky. *shrug* hopefully its not the group who i'm planning on riding with in the future, out of the Clermont bike shop i went to.

On the way to work, this guy on a bike got in front of me at a light, and had this thing that looked like an oversized cooler strapped to his back. Oblivious to the traffic around. Not enough room to pass, I have to follow. I finally get a red light, he ignores all signals. Doesn't look anywhere.

Guess he was angling for a lawsuit somehwere. He was dressed more like a homeless guy than anything...

Perhaps it was an Eco-friendly liver courier.

Their success rate for transplants isn't so hot, but you can't beat their minimal carbon imprint.
