I am no expert but when I brazed my front derailleur tab to my steel frame I installed the derailleur and crank and marked where it was going to be brazed. The first time I brazed and it went on like a pro [OK I have brazed some items in the past but nothing like a bike frame]. So far it has not fallen off and it is in the right spot when I did the final assembly.

Frame Forum (http://frameforum.org) is more populated with professional builders.
You should get more responses there.

The distance between the center of my BB shell to the middle of the slot of my FD braze-on is 145mm. That leaves a good amount of adjustment to handle a 50-56T big ring.

Thanks a lot guys. I tought there was a templeate or a rule for it. It must be located right there in the middle of the seatpost or it must have sort of an angle? just asking to be sure. Once is in place go back is kind'a hard.
