Since one of the VERY few points that Brian made in his thread was that its very difficult to get moderators into the BFSSFG forums. I just wanted to point out that there are a number of volunteers (including myself) that would potentially be appropriate for the job.
If in fact you are looking for a mod. I think you'll find my record very reasonable for consideration. If not, carry on as desired. I just wanted to point out that there are (likely) many qualified volunteers.
Cheers.
PS - I wasn't sure how to contact maderators directly.

I'll make sure brian and the usual SSFG mods look at the request. btw, all mods accept PMs. :)
I wasn't sure which color star to send it to? I assumed there was a hierarchy.
But thanks cuda.
Ya if the forum was so hard up for moderators why was there no thread about applying or being on the look out for more anywhere that I've seen?
I will moderate the ss/fg forum.
i'd be up for moderating it, if i was allowed back in. or if brian didn't have something against me already.
i think ANY of us would be up for it. and probably do a better job, too.
oh well.

What he said.
Im hanging around in ssfg anyway.
I'm sorry, but I find that hilarious. Why would they want someone they "locked out" of the forum to moderate it? If they think you are a being the bad influence, do you think they would want you to be a moderator? What would you not allow?
Wouldn't it just be easier to just not moderate the forum?

fyi: http://www.bikeforums.net/showgroups.php - shows which mods are in what groups. Technically there's only Admins and Mods, but there are a few other subgroups for reasons like the Sheldon Brown memorial icon and such. Brian is the most senior admin, followed by donnamb.

You obviously missed what the whole lock out fall out was over. Some SSFG regulars were locked out because they complained about a impending lock out. All the while the mods were saying one of the reasons for it was "no one wants to moderate ssfg". Obviously no one was even aware there was a lack of mods problem as far as regular users go.
Well, I am not taking sides here, but the other side says something else. Since the other side is the ones who decide who becomes the other side, I just don't think they would accept someone that they locked out.
I'm just laughing at the idea they would lock someone out then tell them when they get back that they can be a moderator.
Well, I would volunteer to be a moderator for SS/FG, but then I would never be able to enjoy reading my favourite forums :( . And, the other moderators would think I was really crazy :D .
I don't actually own a SS/FG, although I'm willing to try :) .
:D

Don't worry none of us in SSFG even own bikes.

Just to clarify. I feel that a large percentage of members that were locked out were locked out unjustly. The post about it IN the ss/fg forum has many details. I recommend actually perusing it.

Really? Then I wouldn't fit in at all :( .
I have 12 bikes, you know?

And no one for fixed gear. So why is Brian saying that mod participation is not an issue? Dividing by zero is impossible? Is that why?
Forget having our own mods, how about you (plural) try something new and moderate without being righteous *******s. There's nothing wrong with a deleted post and a PM with an explanation.
Actually, I've gone back through threads and found some of my posts deleted without ever hearing about it. How do you expect us to abide by your standards of decency if they're secret? (First time was a post of a lady with "sprinting quads".)

You have your own mods, they just haven't been "designated" to SSFG at the current time. The designations are a new thing we're trying out just for internal (moderator) use. So other mods know who to contact if needed for advice on the goings-on in one forum or another.
As far as anyone unjustly being locked out, they can contact Brian via PM and state their case. However, I think it was fairly clearly stated that if you threw a fit in the SSFG thread that would likely cause access removal. Responses in that thread certainly were not the only criteria.
On any forum board whatsoever (and 'serious' one anyways) the predominate over-riding qualities which suit a person for moderating duties are:
Commitment to the principles under which the board operates
Commitment to team-oriented process rather than the pursuit of personal ideals in supervision.
I highly doubt that anyone who has been temp-banned or has bewailed/denied the validity of the intervention would really befit those criteria. :)

You're making my point. I'd show but all of my posts have been deleted when you guys deleted the Closing SSFG thread. I had a whole analogy about a stable mod being able to keep the ship from rocking, rather than having a bungload of mods swarm the forum and resurface the ship. Which actually sank by the dramatic threads some mod started, can't remember who. . .

No one's up in arms with an 'intervention', but rather the gestapo (dramatic effect) tactics used. We understand the guidelines. We have a problem with their irregular application.

Right. But it's not funny.
Apparently I have now been blocked myself from ssfg. Didn't make the first cut, but looks like I got picked up as a free agent. Must have been my eager volunteering to help.
East Hill, your so closely toeing company line is unbecoming. You're supposed to be easy going. Now you're using that persona as a veil. :(

As I said, I think Brian would be more than happy to explain the reasoning if you politely asked him via PM. I don't have my hands, nor eyes, on those controls, so not much else I can say.

Trolling posts like this are untrue, and only serve to perpetuate the problem. No solution is being suggested by you.
In the meantime, no one wants to admit to being part of the problem in SSFG. It's so much easier to blame me for trying to fix things than accept responsibility for your own actions.
Peed. Im with you. It seems that the only users that were using logic to try to have discussion in the post started by Brian are now banned.
I'm shocked myself. As I was in no violation of the rules (that I am aware)
Brian, what responsibility should I be accepting. I have such a small percentage of "garbage" posts. I wasn't arguing that SS/FG wasn't bad, I was arguing that your methods are unjust.
Why did you ban us just this minute if you're only going to come in here to argue?
We understand the guidelines.
And disregard them.
How have I disregarded the guidelines? I sent you a PM regarding that.

Ok, you feel it's unjust, and it looks like you're not alone. Now what? Because I'm only interested in moving forward, not backwards.
This is not the first time this has happened on the forums, and it won't be the last. And each time, it ends up being a little better, once the most difficult members move on.

So instead of having a discussion in a mature context you decided to simply ban a user (me) who was in no clear violation of the rules without so much as a warning?
I have an immaculate record on these forums. So I went from having no strikes against me to dismissed? How is that a positive thing for a new guy?
How have I disregarded the guidelines? I sent you a PM regarding that.
Please. I'm going to start copying and pasting the same response into every post soon. Your constant badgering and lopsided viewpoint contribute nothing towards a resolution. They merely perpetuate an issue that you know will never be resolved to your satisfaction. Yet you continue.
As I said, I think Brian would be more than happy to explain the reasoning if you politely asked him via PM. I don't have my hands, nor eyes, on those controls, so not much else I can say.
I have John. He hasn't replied.
Here's the PM. Think it's syrupy enough?
--------------------------------------
May I be let back in to ssfg? If you'd care to reply with more than one line, I'd appreciate knowing why I'm out and what you expect from regular contributors. I'd be happy to oblige (now or in a month.)
Seriously, I understand your concerns but can't stand the approach. Especially when I wouldn't be able to differentiate a mods post from anyone else's if they didn't have a blue star beside their name (unless they were making a threat ;)). You (plural) make just as many inappropriate posts and that makes it hard to determine what's over the line.
--------------------------------------
edit:
And disregard them.
Pot. Kettle. Black. See my pic
As you can imagine, my inbox has gotten a bit full.
Are you serious? I was an individual offering solutions! Even moderators commented in that thread that I was actually being positive and trying to provide constructive criticism!
I wasn't doing any badgering either. I was suggesting that you conduct yourself with a more professional attitude. I was offering up solutions Brian. You were the one badgering. I can't believe that you would've thought any of my posts were even remotely off color. You also didn't return my PM?
I mean... I guess what can I say. You feel that its necessary that I be banned, thats the way its going to be. This is clearly not a democracy.
How unfortunate. One of the greatest resources for information that I frequent AND contribute POSITIVELY to and I can't access it.
Would you at least reply to my PM so I know the stipulations of my sentance?
Especially when I wouldn't be able to differentiate a mod's post from anyone else's if they didn't have a blue star beside their name...
Personally, I am happy to hear that you think of me as just another member. I am here to make the board better for everyone, and enjoy myself at the same time.
Do you think that I am not doing that?

You don't participate on that board, ma'am. That post does not apply to you. Since you persist, I can give you names. Kemmer, Pitboss, jsharr, Brian, x136, and Donnamb (sorry if you were missed) all participated at one time or another. Not saying they all make posts that should be deleted but at least half of them do. Not too different from the board participants themselves.
edit: maybe you could somehow indicate that you're quoting me sans context. Like some dots (. . .) or something out front
So Brian, who do I go about talking to to see some recourse taken in regards to your violations of the rules? Because if you honestly feel that you're being democratic then I suppose you should stand by your decisions and be willing to subject them to a higher up?

i'm with you.
i'm not trying to bait anyone anymore. we've had our bout of civil disobedience (the same way we usually do, much to other's chagrin), but it's beyond that now. i really would like to discuss this with someone who will give reasonable responses and rational replies, rather than just accusing me of talking smack.
i can be an adult and drink from an adult glass.
i volunteered to mod in the "Closing BFSSFG" thread that has since disappeared
im renewing the offer here
We're going to need to take on one moderator at a time, because it takes time to get one up and running. Since we've got EivlEvo now, we're going to pause before we add any more. Thanks, though. :)
Yes let's allow someone who doesn't even post in the fixed gear forum to moderate, based solely on his offer to do it. Well guess it can't be worse than our current moderators who don't even see it fit to send members a PM on exactly why you are banned for over a month from said forum.
Who the hell decided who to ban anyways? Oh operator, we don't like him let's ban him! Yes yes yes! <- this is the type of knee-jerk witch hunt attitude i'm getting. I mean if you can ban me for what i've said in the FG forum then you could've easily banned me 30 times over in all the rest of the subforums.
If this is how genuine posters are treated on bikeforums, you can go **** yourselves, seriously.

What makes you think EivlEvo doesn't post in SS/FG?
How many posts does it take in order to moderate in any forum? If I post six or seven times in there, am I qualified?
How about if I've lurked in there every day I've been reading this board? Does that qualify me?
Or am I qualified because of my desire to have more people enjoy participating in the SS/FG world?
I've never made an AltBike, but I love that forum. Does that mean I can't moderate it?
Or is what you're really saying is that if I'm not young, male, and drink PBR, that I can't possibly understand the 'culture', and therefore, completely incapable of discerning rude behaviour towards others from 'male bonding'?

Do you talk to people this way in real life? When people speak to me this way, I walk away from them and don't engage in any kind of reasonable conversation. I don't have to take abuse. Neither should anyone else.
When "genuine posters" post things like this on a fairly regular basis, we don't ask them to be moderators. Being able to post messages without needing to either censor yourself or make the censor filters kick into use on a regular basis is a characteristic all the moderators share. If someone can't follow the most basic of the forum guidelines at least 90% of the time, it stands to reason they will not be asked to moderate.

The friendly helpful East Hill is still here.
I understand the frustration, but I see it from the woman's point of view. I have long entertained the idea of having a FG bike (although I've got some big hills in my neighbourhood), but every time I have visited the SS/FG forum I have seen threads there that are so negative and scornful that I ask myself why I would be interested in a 'culture', rather than another fun way of getting around on a bike.
Or, perhaps I am so accustomed to C & V, Clydesdales/Athenas, AltBikes, and the other forums I visit that I can't see the humour in saying **** you man, and **** your mama, and **** this forum to the point of having more asterisks in a post than words that don't get filtered out.
