2007 Mavic Ksyrium wheel set with a Shimano freehub. Will a 8 speed cassette go right on or is there anything funky I need as far as special spacers or.........? I have a spare set of ES's I would like to put on the wife's Sora 8 speed bike.
You'll probably need the special MAVIC spacer that should have come with the wheel.

I have the spacer that I use behind the 10 speed cassette. I assume that is the one you mean?

Apparently Mavic wheels for Shimano cassettes are designed for the slightly longer Mavic cassette, so they come with a narrow spacer for use with a standard Shimano cassette. If I understand correctly, this should be different from the 10-speed-cassette spacer you mention.

Do you have one or two spacers behind that 10 speed cassette? Assuming this is a 8/9 speed hub, "usually" there are two spacers: the Mavic spacer that is needed behind every 8 or 9 speed cassette (this one comes with the wheel), and the 10 speed spacer which is needed because the 10 speed cassette is narrower than 8 or 9 (which is needed when you put a 10 speed spacer on any 8/9 speed hub - this one comes with the 10 speed cassette).

I use both spacers behind the 10 speed cassette. The Mavic spacer and the Shimano spacer.

For the 8-speed cassette, you'll just need the Mavic spacer.
