Ok, I got some 16 mode DX drivers seeing how I've had good luck with them in the past and I like the way they grouped the lights.
Of the 5 that I own 3 work. The other 2 don't. I'm not sure WTF happened here.
I have a couple in testing use right now tho 2 of the 5 I ordered are not working. The DMM to the +tive and -tive rings on the back side show 5.2v with 4xAA NIMH however the wires from the reg to the LED's aren't showing up. THe other 3 I have are working fine. Just not sure what's wrong. I checked with a 12x grain scope and I don't see any solder bridges.
If I did short the regulator I could feel the batteries heat up but I did not feel any heat up on the battery.
I did you some solder paste to help clean off the soldering tabs as in the past when I could not solder anything to a SSC P4 U-bin LED I had (I even tried light sanding) the connection would not work but when I used some solder paste on the LED solder tabs then added the solder the LED worked right away. That said I used a little on the regulator.
I checked against the other 3 I have that are working right now and I have them soldered correctly. I'm using this for bike lighting. I have been using 4xAA NIMH Duracell 2650mAh cells which hot off the charger are ~5.8v which the people on DX have reported the driver maxes out at 6v max whih I am well below that.
My setup is this: batt -> switch -> Vin +/- (the rings area on the back side of the regulator. Middle is +tive and outside ring is -tive) -> regulator -> LED +/-.
Now I know the switch works. I tested that. I know the power is reaching the back side of the regulator (the rings) but when I test the wires leaving the regulator to the LED's most of the time they are either 0v or they read 5.2v.
Seeing as I got a reading on the LED side of the wires I proceeded to solder it to the single cree Q5 LED which I have tested before hand to me working to cut down variables.When I have soldered the reg LED wires to the LED then hooked up the battery and turned the unit on the LED did not power up. This is odd.
All my other 3 same regulators have been working no problems and for the curious I have been using a Weller soldering iron with a controllable thermostat and I was soldering the regulators at 45 x 10 setting.
Help please. I explained allI can in hopes someone can help me out. I was going to post this on CPF but thier new thread page bombed on me. -.-;
