Mountain Biking - Your favorite glove?

So, what do you cover your hands with? What kind of riding do you use them for and do you like 'em?

As for me, I've gone all my time without gloves, but I think it's high time I got some to cut down on hand fatigue and skinlessness.

I don't really see a point to having gloves, but then again, I haven't really ridden extensively. When I get my bike, I plan to just use my work mechanics gloves... no point in spending more money for gloves, a gloves a glove to me.

Hmmm tough call. I really like my new Campagnolo Metal Series gloves. I find myself reaching for my pair of tried and true '01 Specialixed Team Downhill gloves (Spidy gloves) I picked them up really cheap and while they're not my off-road choice they are a good commuter glove. IMHO

I also like my couple year old pair of FOX Sidewinder gloves that I use exclusivly for trail riding.

gloves are a must IMO, especially in cold weather OR if you bail out a lot. i think full finger is the only way to go. i just got my troy lee xc's from jensonusa last week and tomorrow i will have a chance to ride with them. just trying them on, they feel light and movable, but i do find that the velcro closure at the wrist hurts the skin. but damn gloves are expensive, it's hard to stay under 20bucks for a pair. i mean, work out gloves are as cheap as 5 bucks a pair, but those aren't full fingered. baseball/batting gloves also might work if you want to save a few bucks.

I used to think the same; that gloves aren't really necessary. And they're really not if you ride only once and a while. But they are sure nice if you ride a lot, or ride for a long time.

It's like you really don't need an air conditioner in your car, but it sure makes life a bit more comfortable when you're stuck in traffic on a hot, muggy, summer afternoon.

My gloves serve me in the following situations:

- keep my hands warm on cold days which helps control the bike better.
- The padded palms keep my hands from fatiguing on long rides.
- They have protected my hands for those inevitable falls.

I prefer full-fingered gloves, even in the summer. Mine are a knitted lycra with synthetic leather palms by Activa (Norco).

If you are going to ride anything rougher than a light trail. wear gloves in case you fall even if they are your mechanic gloves. Something is better than nothing.

I have three pair. Trek Moby Gels in the summer, a pair of unknown brandm, full fingered for fall and Specialized winter gloves when it gets cold. I wouldn't ride without them. I ride almost exclusively on roads and bike trails.

I ride these year round. Great gloves. Full finger is the only way to go.

i like using my Progrip MX gloves. Comfortable and good protection. Also, I do not need to buy different gloves for mx and mtb.

I use a set of Chiba Drystar in the winter. Excellent gloves, and waterproof too. :)

specialized enduro's. they are super comforatable, padded and fit great, but they're a little warm in the summer

I use some cheapo Bell gloves bought at wally world.... They lasted longer than the bike(s) I got from there. Riding a Fisher now with the second pair of cheapo Bell gloves LOL

the ergo air gloves are comfy.. I only use it when mtb'ing. but they're a pain when i'm on the hoods(roadie).. :(

I use a set of GT gloves.... Havent done me any harm and have saved my hands plenty of times.... The good thing with them is the thumb and fore finger are covered, so they are full fingered, but the other 3 are 3 qtr length, nice cross betwen comfort and protection :)

i have some mechanix m-pact for cold weather.they are double layer on idex fingerand thumb.fit real nice too.i dont like gloves but my knuckles do.use an off brand from target in warmer weather that are spandex leather combo.they are well padded in the inner palm where the bars hit my hand the most.have tried advent full finger and weightlifting gloves also but these work best for me

fox sidewinder, they hold up well and look cool. just bought 2 more pairs cause i found some on sale for 20 bucks

Using Specialized short finger gloves with Body Geometry padding. Good gloves but not sure I buy into the concept. Thinking of moving to full finger to reduce skin loss. For cold weather, I have some full finger REI insulated cycling gloves. Fingers could be more flexible but they were cheap. Definitely want to replace these at some time.

I use gloves ALL the time! The trails I ride are tight twisty singletrack and I get a lot of protection from full fingered gloves. Plus, with the proximity of some trees, I'm often PUSH off trees. In the event of a fall, (if you aint fallin, you aint pushin) you'll appreciate the protection gloves offer.

As to which kind? Fox makes the most comfortable gloves. I've got like 3 pair that are in various stages of wear and tear. I've also got some Answer BMX gloves which are a close 2nd in comfort to the Fox gloves. I bought a pair of Cannondale DH-9's, and they're o.k., but a bit more bulky than the Fox ones.

Its good to have gloves...well at least where I live, this time of year sucks!! Especially when I get on these long downhills!! By the time I get to the end my hands take a good 45 min. to warm up, and for the feeling to get back! lol.

I have a pair of AXO comp gloves that are okay, $10 at pricepoint. A pair of schwinn gloves from performance, $10 (my fav. of the three I have). And a pair of half-finger specialized body geometry gloves, $10 at lbs. the extra padding in the specialized gloves actually made my hands numb cause it was cutting off circulation I think.

I've got Fox Sidewinders, except ive got ones in grey and red, not like the 1s in the picture.

i love the brake lever grips ;)
