Bicycle Mechanics - Shimano DA-10 cassette question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
The middle cogs on my DA 12/27 cassette are showing some wear, as evidenced by some slipping and/or, a bit of delay on up shifts with these particular gears. The wear is not surprising since I spend most of the time in and around these cogs due to the terrain. It has about 2.5K miles on it, give or take. Since these central cogs are steel, whereas the other cogs on this set are Titanium, can I buy an Ultegra 10 speed cassette (12/27) and just swap the central cogs over to my DA cassette? Its less expensive this route. Or, do I need to buy another DA cassette?

Just run Ultegra or even 105, way cheaper than DA and you won't notice the difference. You're probably also looking at a new chain as well.

2.5k miles is not very much. Pehaps all you need is a slight tweaking of the RD cable.

+1
I don't think you can wear out a cassette that quickly.

I should've said the appropriate cable. If it's slipping on the chainring, then the FD cable may need to be adjusted, or it could be a little of both RD and FD cables.
Yea, I thought about adjustment just after I posted. I will check it tonight. I had a local Peformance shop put a compact crank on (Shimano R700) and, the mechanic told me the middle cogs were showing some wear but, he did not elaborate. It is a possibility that his adjustment is a tad off - for whatever reason. I will check it tonight and, hopefully it only needs an adjustment tweak. If it turns out to be wear then I'll just purchase and install an Ultegra cassette. Like one poster said, I seriously doubt that I will be able to tell any difference.
