Bicycle Mechanics - Saddle adjustment

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a Surly CC with a stock saddle. It's a little high in front. To adjust, I just loosen the screw at the bottom until the saddle is able to be lifted out of the grooves it sits in correct? Just making sure b4 I do it :)

You're basically right, but sometimes there's a catch.
The top part of the saddle lamp floats and adjusts itself to the bottom. It's possible to loosen the top part of the clamp, adjust the seat and, when you tighten it back, the seat angle returns to exactly where it was before.
The bottom, serrated portion of the clamp sometimes gets stuck on the fixed portion of the seatpost. When you adjust the seat angle it's important to be sure that the bottom portion has been knocked clear so that it can be readjusted to the angle that you want.

Thanks! Yup I had to knock the serrated portion just like you said. WOW! One notch is all it took. What a difference.
