figured i'd start the thread that should make it into my sig sometime..

unlike posting pics of my car, for fear someone is gonna steal it, or parts from it, posting pics of folders are different - since they can be taken with you, there is never any fear of it going missing *knocks on wood*

and we can share knowledge, with this for folder specific probs, sourcing parts perhaps, i dunno, its not like this section of the forum is ever buzzin.. lol

anyone in north york want to meet up for a ride? weather is finally good.

figured i should update..

well after realizing the selle san marco was a tad rough on a 16" folder, i decided to sell it on craigslist and go all out and got myself the brooks Champion Flyer. Felt good immediately, but is even getting better with every ride. Unfortunately tho, putting on a lot of miles on a folder that isn't the commuter bike is proving to be a challenge when just running the occasional errands!

decided to also get matching handle bar brown leather grips so that will complete the look im going for: modern vintage!

elsewhere, i also noticed the cheapo disc brakes and calipers were utter crap and replaced the front caliper with a bb7 160mm kit just to find out that the strida front fork IS mount is rear biased and the 160mm bracket is only suitable for a 140mm rotor! the guys at urbane provided me with enough spacers to push out the caliper from the bracket with longer m6 bolts! 160mm rotor is working great, and maybe when i feel like wasting more money i'll upgrade the roundagon for the sliced one thats supposedly quieter.

other than that, the cables were sticking slightly, so tri-lubed them and they are good now, 0 resistance and no stickage!

replaced the fender bolts/washer pairs with stainless finishing screws with integrated washers... locktited everything.

gotta stop messing with this thing.. !

Shoulda bought the real thing. I did, and I haven't had to replace anything. Overall quality is excellent.

Most fun to ride bike out of my stable of 5.

yeah, i really wanted to get the real thing, but i had too many competing expenses.. weber bbq, patio furniture, blah blah.. i actually put the bike off for quite a few months and was thinking of brompton/merc, dahon type of bike..

then this craigslist ad surfaced and i sprung for it, $160, but even with everything i replaced, its still less than $300.

I tried the real-deal and the quality of the brakes are supurb, but light.. and only 65psi tires.. and i found the original strida seat too soft.

how did u get urs across the border? shipping/duty? or curbsidecycle on bloor?

oh and have u tried the rear rack? its small but it can handle quite a load!!

12lb bag of BASQUES maple charcoal and a tub of Bad Byrons BBQ BUTT RUB bungee strapped on for a 20min ride! i'll post a pic soon haha

I really love my Strida; it's a fantastic piece of engineering genius, and a hoot to ride. I use it to commute 10km each way to work every day.

I'll be riding it in the Becel Ride for Heart this Sunday, with my wife and 10yr old granddaughter. My wife will be riding her Maxarya recumbent, and my granddaughter will be riding her 16" wheeled Giatex. We'll be doing the 50k route. Should be fun. Recumbents and folders always get lots of attention.
