General Cycling Discussion - Detroit Area Bike Shops?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

After doing some research it seems like the best way to get a good bike fit for me is to find a good local shop and have a bike fitting. I was wondering if there were any members in the S.E michigan area that could suggest a good bike shop that they had used. Thanks for any info.
Not really in Detroit, but within definite driving distance . . .
I purchased my bike from Prestige Cycles

There is also Fraser cycle and fitness, near 15 mile and Utica road.
Also, Macomb Cycle and fitness, on Schoenherr between Martin and 12 mile.
All relatively good bike shops.

S.E. Michigan is a big area. Giving us a more specific location would probably
help.
Kinetic systems in Clarkston is a great shop. They spend a great deal of time
fitting you and working with you.
Good luck

I agree with Kinetic systems in Clarkston. Jeff really knows his stuff!

I have to agree with you there. I visited Continental yesterday, and it's a great place. John was excellent to talk to, about all sorts of things cycling related. I'm definately buying my next bike there.

Mikez, I to use contintental bike shop for all my bicycle needs, I've gotten all but 1 of my bikes thru them, John I feel is pretty good at fitting you for a bike, but then again there are people who say he isn't good at it, so I guess you have to decide for yourself on that one, but I feel his bike shop is the best in the area, and has the most selection..

Definately the most selection. I was amazed when I drove by and noticed it . . . i didn't think bike shops got that large. I'm used to them being pretty small.

I hear you aloner, I remeber when I first moved back here to michigan and somebody told me to go and see that shop for a bike I wanted, so I did, but that was back in 1999 and the shop was a bit south on john R from where it is currently, the shop back then was small and cramped and not that well lit up..So when John moved to this one, is was like night and day, sooo much better and easier to move around in and for them to work it!!..Deffinatly is one of those stores that you would expect to be out on the west coast, not in Michigan:)..But heck we'll take it eh!!..

I'll have to agree that the best bike shop in S.E. Michigan is Kenetic systems in Clarkston. Jeff is the Guru of all things bike related. They are never going to be the cheapest but you get more for your money with the expertise they include.

I went to Continental last year and the price they quoted me to buy/change cassette, derailer and chain ring was extremely high.
I had my bike, which was purchased elsewhere, fitted for me by Jeff at Kinetics in April of 2003. He is very honest. He told me that the Lemond is not the bike he would select for me, but made a few small corrections and mostly corrected my bicyling form/posture on the bike. I was very impressed. Since I don't do as many miles in the winter, I have since put a shorter stem on the bike. I will replace the stem when I start riding more in the spring.
