These look interesting, but im wondering how you would get these serviced and how true they stay. Crank bros say they simplify truing by the elongated nipples.. are the spokes / spoke patter different than other wheels that have the spoke connect to the hub as opposed to the rim?

Are these so new that a mechanic will have to re-learn how to true these?

At 1000$ a set, looks a bit pricey but I would love to hear speculations / or real world experience once these come out.

First of all, these are mountain wheels, not road or cross.

They haven't even been released yet, they were just shown at Sea Otter. So I would definitely say it is too early to tell how easy they are to true. They shouldn't be that much more difficult than any other wheelset. The basic concept is still the same.

$1000 a wheelset is not expensive at all.

My feeling is that they will be like pretty much every other Crank Brothers part: absolute crap.

What makes you say every other crank brother item is CRAP beyond the obvious child response of 'because it is / they are' ?

xc is cross country. cx is cyclocross.

Every Crank Brothers part I've ever had has broken. Every pair of Eggbeaters/Candys I've had has at least one broken side. A friend of mine had a bottom bracket that snapped on the first ride (and yes, before you ask, it was installed correctly). Fortunately, their customer service rocks and he is getting his money back.

Based on my previous experiences with them, I don't think I would trust the new Cobalt wheelset on my mountain bike.

And yes, TimJ is right. XC is cross country mountain biking. CX is cyclocross.
