You guys are funny. I only remember Blue Mounds. The rest is done in misery anticipating Blue Mounds.

CyLowe...the work firewall thinks that the location you hosted your links for the cue, etc. is a porn site. Can you attach a word doc or something?

I'll use the mapmyride link to load it into the Garmin. I'll need something because I know I will be riding this solo.

Also....don't remember what you posted about food availibility on this route. Too lazy to go back and read. Post what you guys are doing for food.

8:30 roll out is fine. Looks like the weather will cooperate, 70's.

Fingers crossed on the weather. I'm already twitchy about it. :twitchy:

Latest from weather underground for Madison says:

Saturday - Partly sunny with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms. Highs around 80.

:twitchy::twitchy::twitchy::twitchy:

Thunderstorms are usually later in the afternoon, right? Right???

It's a file on photobucket. No, I can't attach a word doc. I'll send you one offline, or you can get it from mapmyride, though they have a few incorrect turns that I corrected in my version.

I will have plenty of maps/cue sheets on hand at the ride.

Also....don't remember what you posted about food availibility on this route. Too lazy to go back and read. Post what you guys are doing for food.

As stated in the first post, the first chance for refueling is 30 to 35 miles into the route in the town of Blue Mounds. Be prepared to ride a few hours without a chance to refill your bottles, unless you are enterprising and want to knock on a house door somewhere along the way.

I will have a few Cliff Bars and several gels in my pockets to go along with my two water bottles. I did the route earlier this month without refilling my bottles, but the weather was cool and I was probably underhydrating. If it's warm, I'll be looking for that convenience store in Blue Mounds to get H20 and some Gatorade.

Just be prepared. And remember, there are some cutoff points to shorten the route if someone is not feeling up to the task at hand. They are not on the cue sheet, but are very apparent on the map.

I like that your work firewall blocks porn, but not arbitrary untrusted msoffice docs.

Way to go, firewall.

Edit: I'm bringing two bottles of water, electrolyte caps, and a gel flask. My new favorite long ride configuration.

weather.com says 79 and partly cloudy. niiiice :)

aham23

i will bring three bottles (Two HEED, one Water) with the plan to carry one in a back pocket. normally i go thru two in 30 miles, but this aint normal. plus, two cliff bars and some gels should have me covered. maybe a honey bun or poptart in Blue Mound and i will be good to go. as you can tell eating is my favorite part of these group rides. later.

Psimet2001

So 1 "food" stop about half way. No problem. I'll bring some hammer bars and a gel flask or two. Might have to switch back to the "normal" sized seat bag for this one.

For liquid - just to post for others - now that I have thought about it I will be bringing 2 large bottles (20oz?) That would get me through 3-4 hours of summer riding. I have a feeling that will too much, but the thought of being sans water on monster climbs will result in me luggin around extra.

Recursive - as for our computer infrastructure....don't get me started....OK you did...

Friday - I have an ultra important presentation that was just scheduled for 45 minutes from then. I have a different meeting to be in for 30 minutes leading up to the presentation. I give some instructions to a helluva talented intern I have working for me this summer and go to my meeting.

I get out - we have 15 minutes left. Intern is going crazy.

Intern: "I have the presentation done, but they are epoxy painting the floor in front of the main confrence room. The customer conference room is taken. The projector in this conference room doesn't work (IT responsibility). Turns out it has been broken for about a year. I got a portable projector from IT. It keeps overheating and won't work."

Psimet: "OK....just print the presentation and we'll just hand it out."

Intern: "IT just lost the file and print server. Turns out it was hosted on a desktop acting like a server. The hard drive blew. It's toast. No domain printing is available. They are restoring it, but doing it under a different name so none of your links will work anymore."

Psimet: "OK....I'll get us into the customer conference room. You can't connect your laptop to that projector in that room. Turns out it uses some different video standard and the video switch they installed in the room doesn't handle it (not to mention it has the wrong end on the cable to plug into the laptop anyway). Do you have a flash drive?"

Intern: "Uhhh...no....you never gave me one."

Psimet: "Sorry. OK...how about you email it? That won't work. I can't sign into the account on that PC and don't have administrative rights over anything anymore so I can't force my account on. E-mail it to an internet e-mail address."

Intern: "OK.....no dice. The site is blocked by the firewall. Who knew my e-mail host was considered 'Alcohol, tobacco, or firearms.'"

Psimet: <bangs head against wall>

Intern: <wonders WTF he got himself into>

Ha!

And to think you rode the Dairyland Dare last August.

Or has your memory selectively blocked out that gullywasher in favor of more happy thoughts?

"Pessimism Prevails." - CyLowe's motto going back a long time. Expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised by whatever comes your way.

is it just me or are other attendees giddy?

i am really looking forward to this ride and this weekend.

i may have a hard time controlling myself tomorrow when i get in one last ride :)

the challange of Double Hundos (100K and 100 miles) Weekend has got me giddy i say.

later.

Keep it in your pants there, Boonen.

I agree with aham, I am really forward to this weekend of riding.

Anyone that wants to bring a camera along to document the suffering, please do so.

To take pictures of the ride, not aham23's giddiness. No one wants to see that.

I'm starting to have second thoughts about my gearing for this. I was planning on coming out with the awesome and rocking the 55-42 / 11-21 setup from my tri bike, but now I dunno...I'm starting to remember a lot less "awesome" from last year and a whole lot more "mediocre" to "pathetic"...now where's that compact crank and MTB cassette...

CyLowe97

Jose, if you show up rocking the 55/42 setup, you will be forever known as THE MAN.

And you'll forever be known to your local orthopedic knee surgeon as MY KID'S COLLEGE FUND.

aham23

still giddy, but still in the pants.

i am working from home this morning ;) in order to get in one last training effort for the double hundo weekend.

let me see, which of my hilly routes should i tackle. yes, that is it, i will do the monster of all my training routes. its a 40 mile out and back with 1600 feet of climbing.

me and my double are in trouble :twitchy::twitchy: .

later.

Psimet2001

I am starting to look forward to it. My riding has been low these last couple of weeks. 2 miles of runnig during lunch plus the Tuesday night ride, followed quickly by the round trip commute yesterday will be followed up with a few miles of running today and a 1/2 commute tomorrow. Then I'll be ready....

....or too tired to start. :D

I am giddy too....and I am posting this at home in my underwear. Deal with it.

Psimet2001

FWIW - my compact and my 12-27 are all set to bring the wussiness this weekend. Only the dreaded triple will out wussy me this weekend.

you guys know i am still a noob. next time i buy a new crank maybe a little hint or tip or something. wait, i thinks you guys may be f*ing with me just for the pure joy of suffering. man, you guys are sick.

and, i only surf the net in my undies.

42x21 is very manly indeed.

I'll be bringing my 34x25, which could rival psimet's if he's got 36 in front.

Big "if" though.

Wiswell

The dreaded triple it is. I go all out with the level 3 wussy triple 30/23 combo as the lowest! However, to date, the lowest ever used was 30/21, on a 17% grade. And yet, I am still afraid. I am going around 30 of the CyLowe route, with the 24 mile round trip travel to the start added on. I plan to gorge on Crystal's treats that she promised to bring (right?), and wait the 90 minutes for the rest of you, since after all, once we get to the bottom of the first hill, I won't see any of you again. And even if we pretended that on the first hill we made it to top together, your manly sizes would wush by me on the way down!

At least, that is the plan as of today.

P.S. Mother Nature is messing with us for Saturday.

If I had a triple I would proudly rock that granny gear on this ride. As it is, I'll be winding out that 34x27 at 3.4 mph up a few of the steeps.

As for not seeing any of us, the first 4 or so miles of this ride are flat down County KP. Everyone would be wise to use it for an easy warm up to get the legs spinning.

aham, you should hammer the hell out of this section. Trust me, you can do it!

P.S. Mother Nature is messing with us for Saturday.

:twitchy: :notamused: :twitchy: :notamused:

Per weatherunderground's Madison forecast:
Saturday-- Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 70s. Northwest winds 5 to 15 mph.

48 hrs out.....I'm fully clothed....no sitting in underwear getting giddy around here. :roflmao2:

Set my alarm this morning (or perhaps you consider it still night) for 4:00....yes, A.M.....to start running at 4:30 to get in 15 miles of running and still have 48hrs of recovery :thumb: Had an awesome run!!!! And so glad to have it done.

So, as I type I'm refueling with a cinnamon crunch bagel and a non fat latte from Panera. Love it.

Let the carb loading begin......the giddiness has commenced here as well :D I must deal with my teenagers and remain dignified.

Psimet2001

Looks like I might not get the commute in tomorrow. Might need to do a 5k at lunch today.

BTW - that's a big deal for me you running twits.

Recursive....no 36 on my compact. I bought one for it and then realized that when the cassette is right I spend the whole time in the 50. For this though I will be in the 34 mucho tiempo.

Soy lloron. 34x27 para mi.

Hello everyone. I have been following this thread with much interest, as I have plans to be at the Udder Century upon my return to the US. I hear the weather is finally moving to a more consistent temperate state. This is the news for which I have been waiting as I suffer through my time in the most awesome Tuscany. My use of "suffer" in the previous sentence is part of my attempt to match this fun and lively sarcasm you all enjoy.

I see from participation in this discussion thread that such names as recursive, dave342, CyLowe97, and aham23 are planning on riding this 'Double or Nothing' Metric on Saturday. This has inspired me very much.

Should my flight on Lufthansa not be delayed or diverted due to typical O'Hare International Airport shenanigans, I may attempt to make the trip from Awesome's Creek to bring some of the Awesome to Cross Plains. Pray that the baggage handlers do not misplace my beloved Orbea and BMC bicycles. Apparently bicycles are not welcome as passengers on the plane, even if you buy them both a first class ticket just for the bicycles. Gone are the days of civilized flight, I believe.

If my bicycles do not make it, which would most certainly be not awesome, I will have to rely on my backup Cervelo SuperProdigy, which, if you are interested to know, is geared to 53T and 42T on the Shimano Dura Ace crank and 12 to 25 teeth on the rear cassette. I find the Dura Ace products to be quite awesome.

Until we meet, keep it Awesome!

so leaving northern chicagoland area around 5:45am should be good enough, right?

Frame of reference: It's 123 miles from where I am near Elgin. It's a straight shot down I-90 to the US-12 beltline south of Madison to west on US-14 at Middleton. About 2 hours or so.

Don't speed through the construction area around Rockford. They like giving out the doubled up tickets from what I've seen.
