Seriously, if he wanted to protect his students he'd ban all of them from driving their own cars to school and would provide the most deluxe, covered bike racks available and raffle off locks and helmets at lunch hour every day. Wouldn't hurt if the school district would give full phys ed credit for bike commuting students, either.

While we can all stomp our feet and wave our fists in anger, the principals attitude is not unexpected in todays litigious society. If the principal were to actively promote cycling and little Suzie were to be hit on her way, the school district would probably be required to defend itself.

Nothing is obviously preventing the student who want to ride from riding.

I think the students should keep riding to school and park their bikes right in front of the sign they probably have that says: "Parking spot reserved for school principal"
After they graduate I hope the school district doesn't need them to vote yes on any school funding issues.

I thought the article was tremendously uplifting. Yes, the principal is an idiot, but what about those students? They should be commended for their activism and concern. If this is what the next generation has to offer, I think we can all be a bit more hopeful. :)
