Bicycle Mechanics - resource for roadbrakes and 25, 28 or 32 tire clearance?

Is there an on-line reference list that gives manufacturers (campy, shimano, sram, etc) standard 'dual pivot' style brakes and what they can handle for 700 tire width?

I'm sure it has something also to do with if the tire has nobs etc, but is there any resource other than to installing the brake and mounting different tires?

Depends on the frame & fork manufacturer/model as well. The higher the brake is mounted, the more clearance there is.
I've never seen specific info like that listed anywhere.

The brake may not be your limiting factor, fork clearance and rear stay clearance will probably be hit first. As you go wider you also go taller in dimensions. Most road bikes have a fairly tight tolerance. 25s ought to work, maybe 28s, but most likely the 32s will be a nogo, depending of course on frame.

What brakes are those, kommisar?

I'm using 105 dual pivot brakes. I can just barely squeeze a 28mm tire (Continental Gatorskin) between the brake pads with the QR open and the maximum cable slack without bottoming my brake lever.

I believe the A. Homer Hilsen uses the Tektro R556 which has 55-73mm of reach. The Surly Pacer uses standard shimano long reach side pulls (57mm reach). The quick release issue is probably because the rims are too narrow compared to the tire. Suggest using Sun CR18 (23 mm) or velocity synergy (23 mm) Rims when using 32mm or wider tires. Alternatively get brake handles with built in quick release like a Cane Creek SCR-5.

I hadn't thought about the rim width relative to the tire. I'm using Aeroheads. I think that if I had it to do over I would have used Dyads. They're about 4mm wider so they'd give me a little more brake clearance. I doubt it'd be enough for 32mm tires but I'm not interested in using 32mm tires on this bike.
