Friday May 2nd- It was just warming up a little bit had a nice spin going on the 2nd mile of a 10 mile ride. I'm travelling down Ave x in the graves end section of Brooklyn lolts of double parked cars. All of a sudden this woman cuts me off, I cross my fingers and Boom shoulder into windshield of on coming ford taurus. Level 2 trauma unit and 14 hours in the Emergency room and I'm OK. The right knees fractured but wont need surgery the shoulder is banged up but I have full range of motion and my right thigh looks like well it looks like it was hit by a car. I'm afraid to see what the bikes look like I have to hobble over to the police station and see what my less than a week old bike looks like. The EMT and Trauma Docs said it was the Mass the protected me. I'm out of the game for a month or so and out of work; but i'm here and I'm home and I'm going to be OK and I thank God.

Thanks I thought that was it. In Brooklyn when a cyclist gets killed there a group that chains a white bicycle nerar the site of the crash. It always gets me when I see one. I'm a convert now. I landed on my shoulder but it could've been my head. I'm going to wear a helmet from now on. Thanks for all the well wishes.

WOW!
And...No helmet in Brooklyn? You should EXPECT to be hit a few times a year there.

Yeah, we don't want to have to add any more Ghost Bikes. I'm really glad to hear that you are mostly all right.
Did you manage to get hold of the motorist who caused the accident?

Hi sorry I'm so late answering. so here goes, The guy I collided hung around and did the right thing. The police were getting his info when the emt were strapping me up, the person who cut me off I have no idea where they went off to. For all i know they could've been watching the whole thing or blissfully went on there merry way. As for my bike I dunno what shape it's in. When I last saw it it was in the cops hands and the tire looked flat and the chain was off. Than again I was 20 feet away and looking up at a bunch of people. The police officer said it didn't look too bad. I'm just pissed cause it was so new and by my standards expensive; not to mention I was getting confident riding in the dropped position. I'm going to the precinct on monday to pick her up. Hopefully she'll just need a repair. Apparently I need a lawyer my orthopedic doc convinently reccomended one. Talk about cahoots. Thank you all so much for your support and well wishes. It means alot and I can't wait to get back in the saddle.

It's the herniations/nerve type injuries that can sometimes show up a few weeks to a month or so later that you need to be cognizant of.
That's the main thing that you are good to go. Glad to hear a fellow NY rider is OK.
