Bicycle Mechanics - Dura Ace 8sp - are 9sp chainrings OK?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It seems, from reading Sheldon Brown's website, that there are no issues in using 9sp chainrings on an 8sp Dura Ace crankset, as long as I stay with 8 speeds and use an 8sp chain. Does anyone have any information to the contrary? My 8sp rings are getting a little "sharky" and I want to replace them.
Thank you.

The 9-speed small chainring is off-set slightly to the outside to narrow the gap between it and the big ring so a narrower 9-speed chain can't "skate" over the small ring on a downshift. Your 8-speed chain may rub on the outer ring when in the middle ring and some of the smaller cogs.

It should be okay. Your chain is likely worn though, and may not mesh very well with a brand new ring. This might be a good time for a new chain.
