Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
Today I experienced excruciating pain in both knees at the top of my stroke. I'd gone over 2 climbs pain free, then started to feel first one, then both knees shouting at me. I've not changed my setup for a while, so it's not a new bike/setup, but something has happened - I'm guessing it;s a combinbation of technique and setup. THe pain is in the outside of my knee, just below the kneecap. There's no pain standing or walking, only when in the act of sitting down or standing up - just as I get up/down off the chair.

Any pointers as to what I should look at first?I've a double metric C in 4 weeks, so really need to get this done quick - I was only 70km in today when it happened, yet I did 130km last week without a problem, although I *did* have a tiny bit of a twinge in my right knee, but that went away by monday, so I guess the writing was on the wall. Limped the 50km home in agony, could not apply any power whatsover - managed the few gentle inclines by only pulling the pedals up - couldn't push down.

Any tips much appreciated. Oh - While I'm at it, how do I alleviate stiff shoulders - I'm trying to move my upper body as mmuch as possible, but still develop a bit of an ache - nothing *too* bad though compared to the knees!

Thanks
Kenmc

ITB.

I am not a doctor or a physio, but here is how it might work.

So on your ride you were up and out of the saddle on the climbs and you were pulling up with all your might. Flicking across the top of the stroke. Maybe the plane of your knees was outward when under strain.

If it is ITB then you will need to recover. Seriously. I have recovered and my post is here.

Technique-wise, you need to concentrate on not letting your knees wave about under stress and push not pull from 2 o'clock to 10 o'clock. You can achieve this by dropping your heal.

The only time my knees hurt was when my cleats were misaligned. After slight adjustments, the pain disappeared.
