Classic & Vintage - A fruitful Saturday...(pictures, pictures, pictures)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As usual, everything comes in one big pile around here - today was the day for it.
First and foremost, after 7 months of searching, the 1970 Paramount now wears an old-logo 1A stem (came in the mail today - thanks to Mark Ritz from the CR list) and matching Giro D'Italia bars (can't recall who here on BF I got these from):

While the USPS was dropping off that stem, I scooped up some various parts from one of the local bike parts fellows - a pair of Race Lite rims (both fronts), a matching pair of anodized Mavic SUP's (identical to Mavic GP-4's), an aftermarket chrome fork, and a front/rear set of Bontrager Race Lite wheels in need of a replacement rear rim:

Unfortunately, the fork is just a tad too short for the Guerciotti - anyone have a longer (I believe 222mm is the shortest I can use) steerer fork that will trade? Rather trade for a crowned fork then unicrown.

Also got a cheap pair of pedals and a Specialized saddle for the Voyageur II while I was at it. Still short a 26.6 post.

More photos coming...

Beautiful Guerciotti. I have mixed emotions on selling mine off. I should ride my Paramount more to get over them.
One day I may have a chrome Paramount.......
Definitely post more pics as she gets dressed up.

I have that exact same Specialized saddle on my Diamondback Trail Streak. It's huge eh? Nice looking PM, needs matching Brooks wrap!,,,,BD

I'll do so - levers and hoods come first before the red cotton bar tape (:D) though. I did find a few leads on the CR list for a pair of correct hoods though. Might get them w/the levers while I am at it.

Can I interest you in one? ;) . In fact, she's one of five Guerciotti's I've owned. This one came in a lot of four (far right):

I sold off the blue 63cm, and later ended up acquiring an early '90s EL-tubed machine with Shimano 600. Still trying to get rid of the tall, red 65cm '83 - the mint duplicate of the 61cm that is currently outfitted with the Racelites. I'm keeping the two 61's for myself - they fit perfectly. Incidentally, here is an old mockup picture of the other 61cm - this one is a '78/9, I believe:

Will post more photos later. Ended up getting delayed with the arrival of a neighbor (also a trash pile hunter) who found me some misc. crusier parts and some nice Logitech speakers w/subwoofer for the computer. All trash-pile scavenged, of course :)

No retro-commuter look for this Paramount. Think red cotton Velox bar tape ;)

Just went through my photos again - not much more to mention, other then I spent Friday attempting to straighten the fork on my '73 Raleigh Sport S22.
(Incidentally, that can of Stripeeze stuff in the back is the worst paint stripper I've ever used - burns the skin to no end, and is far less effective then a generic spray stripper)

Note that I said attempting - no matter how straight they sat in the fork gauge, the wheel simply won't sit properly. It is the fourth Raleigh fork that I have seen brazed with the blades brazed in slightly offset to each other (this one is a case of only a millimeter or two), and the second that I have encountered with one dropout lower then the other. Curiously enough, the other example of the latter was on my men's S22.
On a side note, the fact that these forks (not to mention frames) commonly fail really shouldn't be unusual, with poor brazing work such as on this fork. I am only surprised they do not fail more frequently (this said, there have been a number of cases reported in just the last few months on this forum).

On the bright side, it gave me an excuse to clean off the (soon to be stripped apart and replaced) bench :o :

Two more:
Now that the Paramount has its bars, the '78 Guerciotti is free to acquire the Criteriums previously mounted. Too bad it doesn't have a fork yet :(

Didn't have much else to do today (took the '61 Paramount for the usual spin - that was about it), so I quickly slipped on the DA brifters (thank you, Robbie!) onto the '82 Guerciotti mockup. Also mounted a Specalized Mondo tire to the front wheel - still need to get a replacement rim for the rear.
