Bicycle Mechanics - Dent in scandium top tube

I'll try to post a pic when the battery charges, but my bike met a DWP cover when I dropped it trying to make a roadside adjustment today. It got a dent about 1 inch long vertically about half way along the top tube. I knew scandium tubes were thin, but was still surprised at how easily it dented. Where the dent is, I can squeeze the tube and it bends a little, almost like a soda can. Anyway, I was hoping people could tell me if that's of major concern or if it's in a non crucial area. Will post pics asap.

If you can squeeze the tube then the frame is jacked. If you continue to ride it, it could break suddenly causing a crash and perhaps hurting you-or worse.

I should clarify that I can squeeze the tube anywhere along the top tube except at the ends (where it is probably butted and obviously supported by the welds) and it doesn't dent, but you can feel the flex in the metel. My wife can't feel it but I swear I can. I can put my weight on the top tube without any problems. I'll probably just have to take it by a shop to be sure. Just hoping someone on here could say it's not a big deal where the dent is or something, I guess.

I think after seeing the pics that your imagining you can squeeze it...thus I agree with your wife. However, due to the size of the dent I would be leary of riding it for fear it could buckle. But take your own advice and take it to a bike shop.

Thanks, Freako. I'll take it by a shop tomorrow before attempting to ride it. It's no fun when a piece of equipment fails underneath you.

That's looking on the catastrophic side to me...but I'm a fraidy cat that way. I'd rather replace a frame than my teeth.

Yeah, it's just hard when your bicycle budget is somewhere around $0 but you have great health insurance :D
